Richard Gere’s “Hero” Dad Passed Away Months After Celebrating 100th Birthday
Richard Gere’s father, Homer, passed away earlier this month at the age of 100, and he is grieving his loss.
North Syracuse resident and longtime volunteer Homer Gere reportedly passed away on Wednesday, March 1 in the Hudson Valley region of New York.
According to reports, Homer took a deep interest in his son’s development and encouraged Richard to aim high before the actor’s meteoric rise to the top of the entertainment industry.
On March 4, Richard’s wife Alejandra confirmed Homer’s death on Instagram with a moving post about her husband’s life.
She started her message by saying, “North Syracuse community activist Homer George Gere passed away in North Salem, New York.” On March 1, 2023, at the age of 100, he passed away.
Gere was a well-respected insurance agent until he retired at the age of 65.
He also volunteered extensively with North Area Meals on Wheels and received an award for his efforts.
He was a big supporter of the charity, and he and his son Richard Gere appeared in ads all throughout the country for it.
Richard has not made any public statements on his father’s passing, but his silence suggests he is inconsolable.
The Pretty Woman actor frequently credited his father for his success and called Homer his “hero” in interviews.
In fact, not too long ago, Richard and his family and friends celebrated Homer’s centennial birthday with a meal out.
Pastabilities, one of the oldest restaurants in New York’s Armory Square, hosted the birthday celebration that took place in May of 2022.
Following the event, the restaurant tweeted a photo of the group, writing, “Richard Gere came in to Pasta’s tonight to celebrate his father’s 100th birthday.”
According to rumors, Richard was so inspired by Homer that the Oscar-winning actor gave his baby the same name.
Richard Gere, who is 73 years old, and his family were on holiday in Mexico when he had a health scare.
His wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two children were also with him.
The actor reportedly contracted the virus on his trip. The actor from The American Gigolo had a cough before going to Mexico, but it got much worse there.
He eventually went to the hospital because of his persistent coughing and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
The actor was hospitalized for observation, but he was released the next day.
