Rapper Skilla Baby Shot In Head And Hand During Shocking Attack In Detroit, Expected To Recover
After what authorities are describing as a “targeted” attempt on his life, a rapper is fortunate to still be alive.
Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Skilla Baby, 26, who was selected one of the 2024 BET Amplified Artists, was driving in the Detroit region near 8 Mile Road and Beech Daly when his black SUV was shot at.
Rapper Eminem (real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III) famously grew up in a caravan park in the Detroit region before becoming well-known in the 1990s.
According to TMZ, the gunman fired about 25 shots at the car.
Trevon Gardner, the rapper’s legal name, was hurt when he veered into a nearby business building.
According to the police, a bystander who witnessed the shooter leaving drove Gardner to the hospital and dialled 911.
Although the CFWM artist is expected to fully recover, he was reportedly shot in the hand, grazed in the head and back, and injured in his thigh.

When his admirers learnt of the attack, they sent prayers and well wishes.
“Heavenly Father please bring this man a safe healing and easy recovery in Jesus mighty name we all pray amen! ❤️” wrote one fan on the Skilla Baby Instagram page
“I’m praying for a quick recovery and move out of the D. God bless you, sweetheart ❤️,” wrote another.
“Prayers to you. You will have a fast and healthy recovery and will continue to be shield(ed) by the most high,” was another plea to the heavens.
It’s unknown what motivated the shooting.
According to Rap-Up.com, Gardner has a reputation for promoting harmony, which includes assisting in the reconciliation of fellow Detroit rappers Tee Grizzley and Sada Baby in July 2023.
The Bae rapper worked with Detroit authorities in 2024 on a gun buyback initiative that also sought to assist job seekers with criminal histories.
In 2019, Gardner released the mixtape Push That S**t Out Skilla after being found by Sada Baby.
2020 saw the publication of his breakthrough single, Womack, and 2022 saw the release of his album We Eat The Most, which included the tracks Tay B Style and Icky Vicky Vibes.
The songwriter is well-known for his lyrics that empower women.
“I grew up around women. Everybody wants women to love them. Women are some of the strongest people on Earth,” he said.
“I do it subconsciously,” he explained of his female-friendly songs. “It’s not like I am trying to do it; it just happens naturally,” he told Rap-Up in May 2024.
