Nurse Claims Doctor Celebrated Charlie Kirk’s Death — Gets Suspended Instead

A nurse in New Jersey is suing the hospital after she claims she was disciplined for criticizing a physician who reportedly applauded the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The incident

According to accounts, some people are paying with their employment as a result of the shockwaves caused by Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Teachers, firefighters, journalists, politicians, and even a member of the Secret Service have all been affected by the backlash.

For almost two of her ten years as a nurse, 33-year-old Lexi Kuenzle has worked at Englewood Health in New Jersey.

Kuenzle claims that one of her coworkers, bariatric surgeon Dr. Matthew Jung, publicly “cheered” in front of her, eight nurses, and even a patient on a stretcher after word leaked out on September 10 that Kirk had been shot and killed during a Utah Valley University campus event.

“Oh, my God! That’s terrible! I love him!” Kuenzle recalled saying.

Dr. Jung allegedly fired back: “I hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it.”

Kuenzle says she immediately confronted him, asking: “You’re a doctor. How could you say someone deserved to die?”

She later described his remarks as “mind-blowing” in an interview with the New York Post, adding: “I was so angry and upset.”

The lawsuit claims that Jung then made an attempt to make amends by offering to “buy lunch” for Kuenzle and the other nurses.

Suspension and fallout

Kuenzle blogged about the incident on social media and informed management of it. However, she claims that the very following day, rather than receiving help, she was told she would probably be fired and suspended without pay.

“She had the audacity to question how Dr. Jung can comply with the Hippocratic Oath’s and the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics while celebrating the murder of a non-violent Christian speaker who was on a college campus,” her attorney, John Coyle, wrote in the complaint.

In Coyle’s case, Englewood Health is accused of creating a hostile work environment, violating the Conscientious Employee Protection Act, retaliating against Kuenzle for her Christian faith, and breaking the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

Kuenzle is requesting undetermined damages and a jury trial.

Hospital Responds

Both Kuenzle and Dr. Jung were suspended while the situation is being examined, Englewood Health confirmed to Fox News.

“Contrary to certain media reports, the nurse was not fired. Any reported suggestions that the nurse should seek other employment was not an official or accurate statement from Englewood Health,” the hospital said.

The hospital’s website no longer had Dr. Jung’s profile as of Sunday.

A conservative voice

A vocal conservative, Kuenzle frequently posts pro-Trump images on her Instagram, such as pictures of herself clutching an American flag and a cardboard cutout of the president.

Online, Republican activist Scott Presler defended her, referring to her as one of “Charlie’s Angels” and raising doubts about Dr. Jung’s ability to treat patients who disagree with his political views.

“Would he treat them differently? Would he allow his emotions to cloud his judgment, as he did by saying such a statement in front of a patient?” Presler asked.
