Mother Arrested After 4-Year-Old Son Found Dead, Infant Found Crawling In A Ditch

After her 4-year-old kid was discovered dead and her 1-year-old was discovered crawling in a ditch—both across state lines—the mother was taken into custody in Mississippi.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary Guillory said that Aaliyah Jack, 25, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was detained at a train station in Mississippi while she was trying to leave the area, just hours after her son’s death was discovered.

The body was reported to be floating in the water behind the Vinton Welcome Center, close to the Texas–Louisiana border, on Monday. Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s deputies responded to the complaint.

After a concerned family member reached out to investigators saying they believed the 4-year-old may have been their relative, deputies were able to identify the child, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office searched Texas and local authorities, but was unable to locate any reports of a missing youngster that fit the deceased’s description.

The 4-year-old was identified by deputies after a worried family member contacted them to suggest that they thought the child might be a relative, according to the sheriff’s office.

The child was last seen with his mother and brother on Saturday, law enforcement said.

After sending out a “Be on the Lookout For” notice for Jack to other law enforcement organizations, deputies obtained a $300,000 bond and issued an arrest warrant for her. She is accused of neglecting to report a child missing.

After being discovered without her one-year-old, Jack was arrested by the Meridian Police Department.

Tuesday morning, her one-year-old kid was located after a motorist on Interstate 10 reported to 911 after spotting a baby crawling in a ditch close to mile marker 10.

“We look at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby cause he was still alive — unbelievable. This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway.” In a press conference on Tuesday, Guillory said to reporters, “Thank God the trucker saw him.”

“When you look at the video you can see he was crawling toward the highway,” Guillory stated.

After being brought to a nearby hospital, the 1-year-old’s condition is stable. Guillory reported that although the baby suffered a few insect bites, he was sitting up and drinking water in the ambulance when he was discovered.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is currently in charge of the infant.

Guillory stated that Jack had prior minor criminal offenses.

Upon meeting with the 4-year-old’s father, investigators learned that he is not romantically involved with Jack.

The 4-year-old’s autopsy report is still pending, the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office informed ABC News.

Further charges in this instance are possible, according to the sheriff’s office.
