Mind-blowing Footage Shows Pilot Flying Directly Into The Eye Of Hurricane Melissa As Jamaica Braces For ‘Storm Of The Century’
A pilot has entered the eye of Storm Melissa in remarkable new footage as the cyclone approaches Jamaica.
‘Catastrophic’ winds are anticipated to impact the Caribbean island within hours as Melissa approaches today (Tuesday, October 28).
The category five storm is projected to possess maximum sustained winds of approximately 280 kilometers per hour (175 miles per hour) when making landfall.
In contrast, Hurricane Patricia of 2015, the most potent tropical cyclone recorded, achieved maximum sustained winds of 345 kilometers per hour (215 miles per hour) at its zenith.
This year’s most powerful hurricane, Melissa, has been designated the ‘storm of the century’.
The US National Hurricane Center has cautioned that ‘catastrophic flash flooding, landslides, and destructive winds’ will result in ‘extensive infrastructure damage, power and communication disruptions, and isolated communities.’

“Total structural failure is possible near the path of Melissa’s center. Along the southern coast, life-threatening storm surge and damaging waves are expected through the day,” an update on their website continued.
It determined that ‘inaction’ could lead to ‘significant harm or fatality.’
Notwithstanding the immense peril, a storm-chaser released remarkable footage while navigating into the eye of Storm Melissa.
The pilot, using the Twitter handle @FlynonymousWX and the identity Tropical Cowboy of Danger, conducted five fly-throughs on Monday, October 27.
One video depicts the Atlantic Ocean as observed from the hurricane, while another angle gazes into the storm’s eye, revealing a ‘swirl of clouds.’
The pilot possesses twenty years of experience with the US Air Force and has dedicated the past ten years to a ‘hurricane hunting mission’.
Responding to the clips posted by @FlynonymousWX, one social media user said, “Genuinely the clearest video of any eye-wall I’ve ever seen.”
“Hate the destruction & fear they bring, but from a pure nature standpoint, they are just mind blowing to look at.”
A second weighed in: “This is totally bonkers brilliant! Thanks for sharing the video!” as a third described it as ‘pure epicness’.
As of Monday, October 27, three individuals have perished in Jamaica while preparing for the impending hurricane, according to the country’s ministry of health.
Chris Tufton stated that there had been three fatalities associated with tree felling, including one incidence of electrocution resulting from this activity.
An additional 15 individuals have sustained injuries, primarily from falls off rooftops and trees while attempting to prepare for the storm’s effects.
The Jamaican government issued a compulsory evacuation order for many regions as the hurricane approaches.
While some individuals have left, others have sought refuge in state storm shelters, while some remain in their residences, securing their properties.
Following Jamaica, Storm Melissa is projected to advance into eastern Cuba, then the Bahamas, and potentially Turks and Caicos.
