Meghan Markle Confirms She’s Changed Her Name, And We Had No Idea

In her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, Meghan Markle acknowledged that she had altered her name.

The former actress, whose real name is Rachel Meghan Markle, has disclosed that she uses a different name in her daily life.

In an interview with comedian and actress Mindy Kaling for her lifestyle show, she revealed the shocking information.

Many fans are perplexed by the update because they believed the former Suits star was still known as Meghan Markle.

Reacting to Markle’s update, one person wrote: “Good Lord! She wants the name but doesn’t want anything to do with the family.”

Another questioned: “What happened with the quiet life she wanted to enjoy?”

“You walked away from the honor of having that gift of a name, and you can’t have it both ways,” fumed a third social media user.

Others, meanwhile, have rallied to Markle’s defense after her name change.

One fan pointed out: “They hate you, but they can’t stop talking about you.”

“The hate for Meghan Markle is ridiculous,” agreed another. “You’ve no real reason to hate her.”

After getting married in 2018, Markle and Prince Harry became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The following year, they welcomed a boy, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor, and in 2021, a daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor.

The pair stunned the world by announcing their resignation as senior royals before welcoming Lilibet in 2020.

There have been demands for Markle and Prince Harry to lose their titles as they have disassociated themselves from royal responsibilities.

The pair has maintained their title, though, and Markle has now stated that it holds particular significance for her.

Markle retaliated against Kaling in With Love, Meghan when the actress repeatedly referred to her by her previous last name.

“It’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle,” the duchess said in episode two of the show. “You know I’m Sussex now.”

Markle clarified that it took on greater significance following the arrival of her two children.

“You have kids and you go, ‘No, I should share my name with my children,’” she continued. “I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.’”

Markle explained why she and Prince Harry chose to maintain Sussex as their last name in a recent interview with People magazine.

“As the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’” the duchess told the publication. “I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now, a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.”

She added: “It means a lot to me.”
