Lip Reader Reveals What Donald & Melania Trump Talked About During Their Dance at the Inaugural Ball
Some internet users had strong judgments on the couple’s appearance, aside from a professional lip reader who revealed the words that Donald and Melania Trump spoke during their dance at an inaugural ball.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump danced together at the Liberty Ball on January 20, 2025, the day of his inauguration. Jeremy Freeman, a specialist in lip reading, has offered his thoughts on the couple’s interaction during the occasion, which also featured Melania’s stylist’s stunning structured gown.

At the ball, Donald and Melania took center stage while the orchestra performed a soft, romantic tune. The President of the United States (POTUS) put his arm securely around the First Lady of the United States’ (FLOTUS) waist as the couple rocked to the music.

As they spoke in front of the crowd and shared an intimate moment, Melania put her hand on her husband’s back to draw him closer.
According to Freeman, who is an Expert Witness Forensic Lip Reader with certification from the Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre at University College London, at some point, Melania stated, “Today is one we will never forget.”

Donald then replied, “You’re right, I’ll learn, I’ll fight.” The exchange grew even more personal as Melania assured her support with, “I got you.”
Freeman, who has been lip reading professionally for over a decade, said Donald responded with, “We’ll see. Will you control it? Less tricky, less pushing away?” “It’s a no,” answered Melania, to which Donald reportedly acknowledged that he heard her.

Donald wore a traditional black tuxedo, a white shirt, and a black bow tie to the Liberty Ball, which the two of them attended before finishing the evening at the Union Station’s Starlight Ball.
Melania, meanwhile, dazzled in an elegant white gown with striking black embellishments and an asymmetrical shape that embraced her body. She wore a beautiful black choker with a diamond broach to round off her gentle waved hairstyle.
Herve Pierre, Melania’s go-to stylist, worked closely with her to realize her vision for the FLOTUS’ first gown.
In a statement, Herve shared his gratitude for the opportunity and explained the inspiration behind the gown, saying, “It is a big honor… It was clear that Mrs. Trump was gravitating toward a combination of black and white — true to her own style and vision.”
Herve added to the enthusiasm by bragging about his efforts on Instagram and posting two concept sketches of Melania’s outfit.
The drawing draws attention to the gown’s distinctive features, such as its floor-length, form-fitting design, diagonal black embellishments that flow asymmetrically across the torso, and the black choker she wore to complete the ensemble.
In his caption, Herve expressed, “It was such an honor to create the dress for the First Lady Melania Trump tonight.. I can’t thank her enough… it was a wonderful project, a great collaboration… as always !!!! A big thank to @atelieryqs for helping me on that project… your work is 👌🏻impeccable 🙏🏻 [sic].”
Netizens expressed a range of thoughts about Melania and Donald’s dance at the Liberty Ball, which caused some online comments.
Some observers did not shy away from critiquing the interaction, expressing how uncomfortable the couple’s dance looked. “Awkward. You are lying if you don’t notice that,” remarked one viewer.
According to another, “Trump and Melania’s Inaugural Ball first dance was something else—a stiff, awkward shuffle that looked more like a hostage situation than a celebration.”
But not all of the comments were unfavorable. “So sweet,” said a witness who had a distinct view on the event, adding a counterpoint to the general discussion.
Although the Liberty Ball received a lot of attention, Donald and Melania Trump attended three inaugural balls on the historic evening. At 10:30 p.m., the pair made their first appearance of the evening at the Commander-in-Chief Ball, which kicked off the celebrations.
Eager audiences had waited for hours to see the POTUS and FLOTUS, despite the late schedule. After entering the stage, the two danced slowly to the US Marine Band’s “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Vice President JD Vance and his spouse, Second Lady Usha Vance, joined the Trumps on stage for a partnered dance, making the occasion even more memorable.
During the Commander-in-Chief Ball, Donald took a moment to address the crowd, greeting the gathering with his signature energy. “This is quite a gathering, huh?” said the president.
An evening full of spectacle, celebration, and events that will surely go down in inaugural history came to a close at the Starlight Ball.
The First Couple’s evening was portrayed as a blend of formality, celebrations, and public interaction, even though the Liberty Ball garnered a lot of attention online.
