Katy Perry Breaks Down After Becoming First Pop Star In Space — What She Did After Landing Shocked Everyone

As the first music star to travel to space, Katy Perry has opened out about her feelings.

The singer was one of six women who made the space journey on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on Monday.

Perry took off from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One in West Texas with novelist Lauren Sanchez, who is dating Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos; TV host Gayle King; civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen; former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

They officially entered space during their 11-minute mission, which took them 100 kilometers above the ground.

Before making a “picture-perfect” return to Earth, the crew was heard yelling with delight and awe at the sites they could see.

The six ladies were clearly touched by the experience, and Perry was spotted kissing the earth to celebrate a successful landing after raising a daisy she had brought into space with her in memory of her daughter Daisy Dove.

The singer was heard singing ‘What A Wonderful World’ as the group started to descend back to Earth, where their loved ones were waiting.

In an interview after landing, Perry revealed that it left her feeling “super connected to love,” and said that she also took the flower to remind her of the preciousness of the Earth, adding, “This is all for the benefit of Earth.”

Gushing about the life-changing experience, she added, “This experience is second to being a mom. That’s it. And that’s why it was hard for me to go, because that is all my love right there and I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me.”

She went on to explain why she felt it was crucial to leave, saying she “wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness.”

According to her description, “It is the highest high, it is surrender to the unknown, trust, and this whole journey is not just about going to space – I couldn’t recommend this journey more.”

The 40-year-old singer offered fans a behind-the-scenes peek at the capsule that will transport her into space before it took flight.

Perry shared a first glimpse of the cramped quarters inside the capsule on Instagram, where all six ladies will spend the voyage.

“I think I’m gonna sing,” she said in the video. “I’ve got to sing in space!” She added, “These are all of my astronaut girly friends,” as she panned the camera across the capsule’s interior.

Concerns about the safety of the Blue Origin capsule had surfaced again ahead of today’s most recent trip.

In 2021, a group of 21 current and former personnel voiced concerns over the safety of the New Shepard rocket, which is used for suborbital flights like this one.

“In the opinion of an engineer who has signed on to this essay, ‘Blue Origin has been lucky that nothing has happened so far,’” the employees wrote in a letter published by Business Insider. “Many of this essay’s authors say they would not fly on a Blue Origin vehicle.”

Although space travel is still one of the most dangerous forms of transportation—roughly 1% of US space flights end in death—Blue Origin responded by defending the program’s integrity.

At the time, the corporation declared, “We stand by our safety record and believe that New Shepard is the safest space vehicle ever designed or built.”

In August 2022, an unmanned rocket experienced an engine nozzle malfunction that forced the capsule to abort mid-flight and fall to safety, further testing the company’s safety record. Flights were temporarily grounded as a result of the event.

Perry had disclosed that she was putting her trust in a higher power in spite of the worries.

She remarked on what she feels are indications from the universe confirming her intention to travel to space and shared an emotional narrative about her connection to the capsule’s design on Instagram.

“When I was invited to come on this voyage, I looked up the capsule. On the very front of it is the outline in the shape of a feather, and when I saw that, it was like a total confirmation because my mum has always called me feather,” she said.

The ‘Teenage Dream’ songstress continued, “And so I’m in space training today, and there’s a lot to digest. We’re almost finished with the day, and they showed us the capsule, and we ran simulations in another capsule and tested the noise and what to expect and all these different things, and they reveal the capsule name.”

“The capsule’s name is Tortoise. A wave, just the most energetic wave, just shot through my body. And I was like, ‘What? This capsule’s name is Tortoise?'” she said. “My mum calls me two nicknames. Feather and tortoise. What are the chances that I’m going to space on a rocket in a capsule with my symbol, the feather, called Tortoise?”

“There are no coincidences,” Perry added. “And I’m just so grateful for these confirmations and so grateful that I feel like something bigger than me is steering the ship.”

Blue Origin’s space program, which started transporting people to space in 2021, including Bezos himself, will be its eleventh human flight.

Additionally, the business has a NASA contract to construct a lunar lander for the future Artemis mission, which would send humans back to the moon.

Congratulations on the successful space voyage of this most recent pioneering crew.
