Jessica Aber, 43, A Former United States Attorney, Was Discovered Dead At Her Residence

Jessica Aber, a 43-year-old former lawyer for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), was discovered dead.

Alexandria Police were called to the scene of a ‘unresponsive woman’ discovered at the 900 block of Beverley Drive on March 22 at approximately 9.18 a.m.

Tarrick McGuire, the chief of police for the Alexandria Police Department, issued a statement on X.

It reads, “Officers located a deceased woman. Following notification of family members, the Alexandria Police Department can confirm the identity of the woman as Ms Jessica Aber, age 43, former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.”

According to the statement, “the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and manner of death” and that an investigation “surrounding the circumstances of her death” is still ongoing.

Former US President Joe Biden nominated Aber to serve as the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) from 2021 to 2025.

Aber left the prominent position earlier this year, just before Donald Trump took the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States.

The US Department of Justice website states that Aber oversaw’staff of roughly 300 prosecutors, civil litigators, and support workers throughout four Divisions situated in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk, and Newport News’ that served ‘nearly six million inhabitants’ throughout the district.

Erik S. Siebert, the current US Attorney for EDVA, has since acknowledged her passing.

EDVA is ‘heartbroken beyond words’, Siebert said in a statement following Aber’s death.

Aber is “just irreplaceable as a human being,” Siebert said, praising her as a “unmatched” “leader, mentor, and prosecutor.”

“We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world,” he continued. “Her professionalism, grace and legal acumen set the standard.”

Siebert remarked that although the EDVA was “devastated” by the “loss,” it “will look to [Aber’s] example and endeavor to live up to her standard.”

The statement concluded: “We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.”

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also took to Twitter, writing: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize.”

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with her family this week.”
