After lighting up the American Music Awards stage, the 55-year-old actress blazed the internet.
Jennifer Lopez opened the American Music Awards (AMA) this year with a six-minute medley that featured 23 of her hit songs with quick transitions. However, a sequence of on-stage kisses that generated a lot of internet comments were the moment that garnered the most attention, not a dance move or a vocal riff.
Lopez dominated the stage with a captivating personality and incisive, high-energy movement while wearing a dazzling bodysuit with circuit-inspired design. In a succession of smooth, surprising moments interwoven throughout the routine, she kissed three of her backup dancers in the middle of the performance.
The surprise moments unfolded during a moody, slowed-down segment set to Teddy Swims’ ballad “Lose Control,” adding a sensual twist to the otherwise fast-paced routine. As the crowd watched in real-time, Tiffany Haddish was caught reacting with surprise and later quipped backstage, “She’s kissing everybody!”
The performance sparked instant reactions online. One viewer brushed off the moment, “What is the big deal? I don’t get it.” Others found it less palatable. “This is not what younger generations want to see. Embarrassing,” a second commented.
