JD Vance Warns World Cup Tourists: ‘Don’t Overstay Your Welcome’—Ice’ Barbie Will Be Watching

Vice President JD Vance has a caution for everyone who intends to travel to the United States to witness the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Vice President JD Vance was named vice chair of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by President Donald Trump, after ‘fumbling’ the handling of the National Championship Football trophy during Ohio State University’s visit to the White House last month.

After losing the trophy and witnessing it break in two, Vance was criticised on social media. The trophy was even described as “a metaphor for the US economy” by one jester.

At a news conference yesterday (May 6) regarding the 2018 world cup, which the US, Canada, and Mexico will co-host, he did, however, address the difficult moment and warn people who were intending to attend.

Vance said, “I’m proud to be the vice chair of this for a couple of reasons. First of all, the last time the president had me round the national or international sports trophy was the College Football Playoff National Championship, and I almost broke it, and so I appreciate the president giving me a second chance here.”

“But of course, everybody is welcome to come and see this incredible event. I know we’ll have visitors probably from close to 100 countries.”

“We want them to come. We want them to celebrate. We want them to watch the game.”

Alas, there was a ‘but’ to Vance’s speech, as the VP continued, “But, when the time is up, they’ll have to go home, otherwise they’ll have to talk to secretary Noem.”

The US Homeland Security Secretary, Noem, forecasted during the conference that more than two million foreign visitors will come to the US for the cup.

It will smoothly,’ she said, adding that her department will cooperate with the FBI and Department of State.

Transportation secretary Sean Duffy echoed a similar sentiment, reported by The Guardian as noting: “This is a short-term push of people coming in to see soccer matches, and then they’ll go home […] But don’t overstay your visa.”

Their remarks come after Trump issued executive orders targeting immigrants and green card holders, implementing mass deportations that resulted in the transfer of more than 250 suspected criminals to El Salvador’s Centre for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), known as the “worst prison in the world.”

Last month, a Maryland man named Kilmar Armando Ábrego García was deported there; Trump’s government later acknowledged that the deportation was the result of a “admin error.”

García has not yet returned to the United States, despite Trump stating he ‘could’ ask El Salvador to repatriate the father, conceding the ‘mistake’, and the Supreme Court’s decision that Trump’s government must ‘promote’ his return.
