Influencer Dies While Consuming Toxic Centipedes On Live-Stream
After allegedly consuming live geckos and centipedes on a live-stream, a vlogger passed away.
The popularity of websites like Twitch, Kick, and even YouTube has led to some rather bizarre challenges being done live.
This was especially true when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and we had nothing better to do with our time than stare at screens all day.
But not every challenge is enjoyable, and in 2019, one streamer sadly passed away.
The 35-year-old man, who went only by his last name, Sun, was a resident of east China. It has been stated that he recorded himself consuming massive amounts of booze and eating mealworms, geckos, and centipedes.
At the time, 15,000 people were following the streamer on DouYu, according to Xinan Evening News, and he regularly hosted live streams every night.
Sun reasoned that he would attempt to increase his fan base by offering a spinning wheel challenge.
Obviously more appetizing items than others were indicated on the wheel: centipedes, geckos, mealworms, vinegar, eggs, and beer.
The sun would live in front of the camera, devouring anything the wheel landed on.
But according to authorities, they discovered the man asleep and without vital signs in his chamber two days after the stream.
Investigating the scene apparently turned up food items used in the webcast on his desk, and they also found out his computer was in live-stream mode.
Sun’s films were taken down right away from DouYu, a Chinese website that is similar to YouTube.
During their inquiry, the police did not reveal the specific type of geckos and centipedes that Sun had consumed. But consuming any kind of food is never a smart idea.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cautions individuals to exercise caution while handling reptiles, including geckos, as they may be carriers of salmonella.
It also suggests that pet owners keep their animals away from locations where food is being prepared and wash their hands completely after handling geckos.
“Don’t kiss or snuggle with reptiles and amphibians because this can increase your risk of getting sick,” the CDC states.
“Persons who think they might have become ill from contact with reptiles should talk to a health care provider.”
Although foul play was ruled out in the Sun’s death, police were still looking into what caused him to pass away.
No new information has been released.
