Identical Twins Reveal Surprising Results After 12-Week Vegan Vs. Meat Diet Experiment

The optimum diet for your health is a matter that people have been debating for years.

The simplest solution is probably a combination of all the things in moderation, but two identical twins had a unique chance to try to determine the best diet for them.

Given their genetic similarities, explorers Ross Turner and Hugo Turner chose to test two distinct diets to observe the effects on their bodies.

Hugo followed a vegan diet for 12 weeks while Ross continued to eat meat, dairy, and fish as part of a study with Kings College London.

To ensure that their diets alone were making a difference, the two engaged in the same exercise regimen and consumed the same number of calories daily.

Hugo acknowledged that the vegan diet took a “hit” on his body in an interview with the BBC, which also followed the twins’ trip.

“I think the first couple of weeks it was really craving and wanting meat and dairy and cheese. I love cheese,” he said.

Hugo did, however, perceive several advantages to avoiding animal products.

He said, “I was now having to eat fruit and nuts and alternatives that didn’t have any dairy in them – and so that meant I was eating a lot more wholesome food, which meant that my sugar levels were a lot satiated during the day.”

“I felt like I had more energy.”

Hugo’s meat-eating doppelganger, meanwhile, claimed that his performance at the gym was “up and down a little bit more.”

He experienced ‘big lulls’ on certain days, but felt’very energetic’ when he did.

Hugo did observe some drawbacks to veganism, though, as he discovered that Ross was less prone to get sick because the diversity of his gut bacteria decreased “severely” while his brother’s remained constant.

Although Hugo saw his cholesterol levels fall “off the scale,” he also lost weight and improved his resistance to type 2 diabetes. Overall, the men concluded that there was not “a huge difference, if any” between the two diets.

After seeing his brother’s nutritious vegan meals, Ross became aware of how much processed food he was consuming as a result of the diets.

Hugo lost one percent of his body fat and four pounds, demonstrating that veganism is more effective than other diets for reducing body fat.

In contrast, Ross increased his body fat percentage from 13 to 15 percent by gaining 10 pounds of muscle but also gaining fat.
