Drumming presents us with a stunning experience where we can be free to connect with ourselves and others, in order to restore and heal. It’s been said that drumming is an universal language where all people can be a part of, free from words and concepts so we can experience life with an open heart.
Current research now shows the therapeutic effects of drumming. Research indicates that drumming accelerates physical healing and boosts the immune system.
In addition specific studies conducted by professionals in music therapy and mental health show us that drumming reduces tension, anxiety and stress, helps control chronic pain, boosts the immune system, and releases negative feelings, blockages and emotional trauma.
In this specific study conducted by Barry Bittman, MD, group drumming actually increases cancer-killing cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as many other viruses.
“Drummers,” writes Jordan Taylor Sloan at Mic, “can actually be smarter than their less rhythmically-focused bandmates.” And according to the findings of a Swedish study (Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm) shows “a link between intelligence, good timing and the part of the brain used for problem-solving.” As Gary Cleland puts it in The Telegraph, drummers “might actually be natural intellectuals!”
I personally don’t know these kids, but I believe they are natural intellectuals.
One thing is for sure… they know how to put a show on and make the crowd enjoy their performance!
