After A Woman Disappeared From Her House For Two Years, A Heartbreaking Google Maps Photograph Helped Solve The Case
Two years after a lady disappeared from her home, a case has been solved thanks to a devastating Google Maps photograph.
The picture played a part in the investigation into the disappearance of Paulette Landrieux, an 83-year-old Alzheimer’s patient from Andenne, Belgium.
In November 2020, Paulette was last seen alive.
In a recent video, podcaster MrBallen described how she vanished after her husband briefly turned his back.
Paulette was solely cared for by her husband, Marcel Taret.
MrBallen explained in his video: “Paulette needed help remembering to eat or to take her medications on time.”
“Sometimes she would just wander off without telling Marcel and he would have to go and corral her and bring her back home.”
To hang some clothes on a line, Marcel turned away from her, but when he turned back, he couldn’t find her.
He had dropped her off with some lunch in front of the TV.
The last time he would see her alive was now.
An hour after he alerted the police, a search and rescue helicopter showed up, but they were unable to locate her.
When Paulette’s neighbor happened to be browsing Google Maps two years later, they noticed something strange: Paulette herself.
It was a complete coincidence that just as Paulette was leaving Marcel’s house, a Google Streetview car passed by.
Paulette is seen leaving Marcel as he pegs clothing on the line in the photo.
After the neighbors realized and shared the information, investigators examined the picture and followed her as she left the residence.
MrBallen explained: “Across the street was a steep hill that led down to a thick bramble bush.”
Paulette’s body was discovered in the jungle by investigators.
The YouTuber went on to say: “When that huge search for her was going on, very likely she was just trapped down there.”
“She didn’t understand what was going on, couldn’t necessarily yell up to communicate with anybody, and so she stayed down there and died.”
The movie was included in a MrBallen film about “disturbing stories,” which also included two more eerie tales.
One comment regarding the story of Paulette said: “Far as the first story goes, instant anxiety.”
“I’m 32, almost been married 10 years, if my wife up and vanished I’d be afraid I wouldn’t last long. She does more for me than she will ever know every single day.”
Another said: “The one thing that confuses me is how tf for nearly TWO YEARS nobody at the neighbouring house realised there was a dead body in their yard. That’s insane.”
