Georgia Father Kills 9-Year-Old Daughter In Apparent Murder-Suicide At Brooklet Park
Investigators are investigating if the father was the shooter after a 9-year-old girl and her father were discovered dead inside a parked car in a Georgia park.
Emily Grace Mayo, 9, and her father, James Lee Mayo, 37, were discovered dead by police inside a parked car at Brooklet City Park after a concerned citizen called to report an ‘unresponsive child locked in a vehicle,’ according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Around seven in the morning on Tuesday, Brooklet Police Department officers arrived on the scene and found “a child dead in the backseat with an apparent gunshot wound.”
Police then found James, with the release saying that “a man was found dead in the front seat from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was found on his lap.”

According to the announcement, autopsies are currently being conducted on the father’s and daughter’s remains as part of an inquiry into the deaths.
If the father and daughter were killed by the same pistol or bullets, authorities would not disclose this information.
Reports state that preliminary evidence suggests a murder-suicide. No motive has been made public.
“I keep thinking this is not real. This is not real life. This does not happen to people we know, especially not my own family. Not my Emily,” the 9-year-old girl’s aunt, Amber Healy wrote on Facebook.
“Emily was 9 and so full of life. To know her was to love her. She always had a smile , a hug, a laugh,” the heartbreaking post continued.
“If she met you, she loved you. It was instant. That all encompassing love.”
Since then, Healy has set up a GoFundMe page to collect funds for her funeral and burial.
She said that Emily’s mother is heartbroken at having to bury her young daughter and urged people to “keep us all in your prayers as we navigate through this nightmare we cannot wake up from.”
Healy wrote, “No parent should have to make these decisions.”
As of Saturday night, the GoFundMe has raised more than $30,000.
The tragic father-daughter death occurs only months after a father in California committed a horrific act of violence by shooting his darling nine-year-old autistic son dead in front of the boy’s grandfather’s home.
The boy’s real father, Nicholas Jones, 32, was taken into custody on December 1 on charges of murder and child abuse in connection with the horrific death of his own child, Princeton Nicholas Jones, who was named after his murderer father.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reports that the kid was shot and killed at approximately 7:30 p.m. on 30 November in the front yard of his grandparents’ home, which is situated in Compton, south of downtown Los Angeles, at the intersection of S. Haskins Avenue and Alondra Boulevard.
Police searched for a suspect following the shooting. The public was urged by the boy’s family to assist in the hunt for the gunman.
Police named Princeton’s father as the gunman on Sunday, December 1, but they are still looking into the motive.
Shamica Frasier, the boy’s upset aunt, told Fox LA that she was clearly stunned and had “no idea” why this occurred.
“I don’t know. I have no idea. I don’t know. He was a loving, warm kid. very respectful, just heartwarming kid,” Frasier said.
At the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station, Jones was subsequently taken into custody and charged.
Heartbroken family members referred to the tragedy as “a senseless act” and demanded explanations.
“I don’t know. I have no idea. I don’t know. He was a loving, warm kid. very respectful, just heartwarming kid,” Frasier said.
