Everything Diane Keaton Revealed About Her Health Before Her Death At 79
As moviegoers lament Diane Keaton’s untimely passing, many have been reminded of the actress’s candor on the health problems she had while she was alive.
Since Keaton’s death on October 11, the Oscar winner has received a flood of condolences and tributes.
The actor, who had a multi-decade career, made her big screen debut in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather as Michael Corleone’s lover and later wife, Kay Adams.
Her work in the 1977 film Annie Hall earned her an Oscar for Best Actress, and she had three further nominations for the honor in 1982, 1997, and 2004.

The cause of Keaton’s death has not been disclosed, and she did not disclose anything about her condition in the months before she passed away.
Regarding her health, the well-known star did mention this.
Keaton told the Los Angeles Times back in 2015 that she had a family history of illness, specifically skin cancer.
She said, “It’s a family history. I remember my Auntie Martha had skin cancer so bad they removed her nose.”
“My father had basal skin cancer and my brother had it. It’s tricky with this skin cancer. That’s why you’ve got to put the sunblock on.”
In spite of this, she admitted that when she was younger, she neglected to take care of her skin.
“Back in my 20s I didn’t pay attention much,” she said. “I didn’t research and didn’t really care and that was stupid because it’s dogged me my entire adult life, even recently. I didn’t start sun care until my 40s.”
Keaton battled basal cell carcinoma in her twenties. Decades later, she developed squamous cell carcinoma, which needed to be removed with two surgeries.
Keaton regrettably disclosed that she had also battled bulimia, a condition in which she would overeat before forcing herself to throw up.
Keaton admitted that she occasionally consumed up to 20,000 calories in a single day.
She said: “Typical dinner was a bucket of chicken, several orders of fries with blue cheese and ketchup, a couple TV dinners, a quart of soda, pounds of candy, a whole cake and three banana cream pies.”
She eventually sought treatment for the illness.
She said: “Somebody mentioned that I seemed to have some mental issues, so I went to an analyst. I would go five days a week.”
Following Keaton’s passing, numerous members of the film business have come forward to express their sorrow and honor her.
She included a photo of herself with her cherished Golden Retriever, Reggie, in her last social media post.
The caption of the post, which was a collaboration with home decor brand Hudson Grace, read, “Proof our pets have great taste too! Happy National Pet Day from HG & @diane_keaton.”
