Donnie Wahlberg’s Private Sanctuary: 40+ Photos From Inside His Family Home
Wahlberg and McCarthy have given us a glimpse into their life through interviews and social media posts over the years. While the interior design may be stylish, it’s the people who live there that make it feel like home.
The life that Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy have created together, one that is focused on thankfulness, family, and finding tranquilly away from the spotlight, is reflected in their house in St. Charles, Illinois.
After Wahlberg seen McCarthy’s face light up when he first walked through the entrance of the five-bedroom Tudor-style home, the couple bought it almost ten years ago.
Even though the décor was out of style at the time, McCarthy connected right away. The mansion, for the native of Chicago’s South Side, “resonated like home.”
Despite the challenging work-life balance between New York City and Illinois, such sentiment led them to choose to live in the peaceful suburbs of Chicago. However, the decision was based on family.
McCarthy and Wahlberg both aimed to provide their kids with a steady, grounded environment that contrasted sharply with the bustle of Hollywood or the metropolis. But when they first moved in, the house was less of a tastefully decorated family home and more of a gathering place for their teenage kids and their friends.
Wahlberg and McCarthy prioritised the children so much from the beginning that they frequently stayed in their bedroom while the teenagers were allowed to run wild.
“We said we’ll just hunker down in our bedroom like John Lennon and Yoko Ono and let the kids have the run of the house,” Wahlberg said.
The couple eventually came to the realisation that they needed a house that reflected their individuality as well as their family’s necessities. In order to create a room that combined their love of music, family, and McCarthy’s own glam aesthetic, they hired Chicago-based designer John Wolf.
From the moment a friend offered McCarthy a baby grand piano, the house’s transformation began in earnest. “It went from piano to couch to chairs to rugs, and then it just traveled from room to room to room,” she said.
They were getting closer to the house they had dreamed of with each expansion. The place eventually started to seem like a haven.
With stylish yet comfortable couches, artwork that references McCarthy’s fondness for angels and ascension, and thoughtful accents like the silver “D” and “J” knobs on the doors leading to his sewing room, the living areas are warm and welcoming.
The kitchen, with its expansive island and high-top stools, has become the heart of the home. “This is the spot where everyone gathers,” Wahlberg said.
Wahlberg’s painstakingly designed office, which reflects both his professional accomplishments and his Boston heritage, is another favourite area of the house.
Framed artefacts, ranging from signed jerseys and Boston Celtics artwork to platinum recordings and concert posters by New Kids on the Block, cover the walls.
In addition to more personal touches, trophies, honours, and rare antiques are on display, giving the place a sense that is equal parts museum and man cave. Natural light streams in through the large windows, and the area feels cosy and grounded thanks to the rich wood tones and dark drapes.
By sharing unguarded photos of their house on social media, McCarthy and Wahlberg have also given viewers a closer look. From cooking in the kitchen to folding laundry or just sharing a piece of deep-dish pizza, these photos showcase the warmth and humour that permeate their home, whether they be humorous TikToks of daily tasks or pictures of peaceful times spent together.
The as their family changes, so does their home. After graduating from college, Evan Asher, McCarthy’s son, returned home in 2023.
McCarthy welcomed his return with open arms. “I keep telling Evan, ‘I want you to live with me forever! I love having you here,'” she said of having her son back under their roof.
McCarthy finds it enjoyable to observe his progress. Asher was diagnosed with autism as a toddler, and his mother and stepfather have been quite proud of him as he has achieved many milestones, including graduating from high school in 2021 and finishing college.
In 2021, Wahlberg expressed his joy by applauding the entire class of 2021 for their perseverance and sharing a touching tribute in honour of Asher’s graduation from St. Charles East High School. The circle feels complete now that Asher is back in the same home where he spent his adolescence.
For Donnie Wahlberg and McCarthy, their home has never been about extravagance. It’s about love, connection, and the simple joys of being together. As Wahlberg put it, “There’s no greater symbol of our love for each other than this house and how much love has gone into it.”
