Donald Trump Reacts To Pope Leo XIV’s Appointment — Says He Looks Forward To Meeting Him

Donald Trump has responded to today’s announcement of Pope Francis’ successor after joking that he wanted to be the next pope himself.

Pope Francis died at Domus Sanctae Marthae in Vatican City last month at the age of 88.

There were many theories about who might be the next pope to lead the Church, with eight cardinals being singled out as possible successors.

Additionally, it was announced earlier today that the conclave had officially selected his successor following the conclusion of its extremely secret meeting.

Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, is proclaimed the new pope. His papal name is Pope Leo XIV.

How does Donald Trump feel about the title going to someone else? He made a joke about being the next pope himself and shared a “blasphemous” picture of himself as the pope.

Given that an American is assuming the position of head of the Church, the POTUS ultimately has no qualms about “losing out” on the title to someone else.

In a post to Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope. It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country.”

“I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!”

In fact, Pope Leo XIV was the first American pope in history, having been born in Chicago.

Prior to this, he was the general of the Order of Saint Augustine from 2001 to 2013 and the Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru from 2015 to 2023.

After a group of the most senior members of the Catholic church travelled to Rome to take on the enormous duty of selecting the next pope, the historic announcement was made from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

The number of papal electors is normally limited to 120, whereas there are over 240 cardinals worldwide.

Additionally, cardinals can only cast ballots if they are younger than 80.

Additionally, 138 eligible voters reportedly cast ballots under Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling, casting up to four votes per day over the previous two days, which resulted in a two-thirds majority vote in favour of Pope Leo XIV.

Trump, better luck next time?
