Declassified Cia Files Detail Remote Viewing Of Ancient Martian Civilization

Resurfaced suggestions that a civilisation of human-like aliens may live on the Moon have brought attention back to a once-classified CIA mission.

Project Stargate, a U.S. intelligence effort during the Cold War that looked into “remote viewing,” a type of extrasensory perception in which people tried to psychically monitor far-off places, is the source of the startling discovery.

Ingo Swann was one of the program’s most well-known participants, and her in-depth story has sparked discussion decades later.

In his 1998 book Penetration: The Question of Extraterrestrial and Human Telepathy, Swann initially described his encounter.

He said that in 1975, he was enlisted by unknown intelligence officers and brought to a secret underground facility.

There, a government operative known only as “Mr Axelrod” assigned him an unusual task: “We want you to go to the Moon for us, and describe what you see.”

Swann claimed that what he saw from a distance on the far side of the Moon was anything from typical.

He wrote: “I found towers, machinery, lights of different colours, strange-looking buildings.” He added, “I found bridges whose function I couldn’t figure out. There were a lot of domes of various sizes.”

More astonishingly, Swann said he saw humanoid creatures working in lunar craters, mining or excavating. They were all male, apparently, and naked. “Two of them pointed in my direction,” he wrote.

“How could they do that… unless… they have some kind of high psychic perceptions, too?”

Swann alleged that U.S. officials were not surprised by the vision. When he questioned why no one had returned to the Moon since the early 1970s, he offered a theory: “They somehow have told you to stay away. That’s why you are resorting to psychic perceptions. They are not friendly, are they?”

Axelrod’s response: “You are approximately correct… but not completely so.”

Swann’s story continues to pique the interest of scholars studying unconventional intelligence operations, even though no lunar missions carried out by NASA, Roscosmos, CNSA, JAXA, or ISRO have ever verified extraterrestrial structures or life on the Moon.

Given NASA’s increasing emphasis on human space travel, the story has attracted more attention. The Trump Administration changed its funding priorities in May 2025, directing more than $1 billion towards manned spaceflight missions while slashing $6 billion from larger space operations, such as the Mars Sample Return mission.

Returning American astronauts to the Moon and eventually sending crewed trips to Mars are the stated objectives. However, Swann’s decades-old story begs the question, “What (or who) might be waiting for us when we return if his claims contain even a shred of truth?”
