Daniel Williams’ Final Instagram Post Shows Him In Cockpit Hours Before Fatal Crash
Just hours before the tragic San Diego plane crash, drummer Daniel Williams posted a sorrowful message on Instagram.
Several streets in San Diego had to be evacuated after the plane, which is believed to have had six people on board, crashed into Murphy Canyon early on Thursday, May 22.
“We have jet fuel all over the place,” assistant Fire Department chief Dan Eddy said during a news conference. “Our main goal is to search all these homes and get everybody out right now.”
Both David Shapiro, a music agent who has handled artists including Sum 41 and Vanessa Carlton, and drummer Daniel Williams, a former member of the Ohio-based metal band The Devil Wears Prada, were on board the plane involved in the horrific tragedy.
In a devastating social media message, Williams’ former bandmates from The Devil Wears Prada honoured the gifted performer.

It read: “No words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.”
Williams posted a number of Instagram Stories from outside the private aircraft and even inside the cockpit only hours before the tragedy.
“Hey. Hey … you … look at me … I’m the (co)pilot now,” Williams said in one post, while he said in another, “Here we gooooo.”
Shortly before takeoff, the drummer also shared a photo on social media, tagging the plane’s owner, Shapiro, who is a manager of a music talent agency.
Eve 6, Pierce the Veil, I Prevail, Set it Off, Silverstein, Parkway Drive, and Story of the Year are just a few of the clients of Sound Talent Group, which Shapiro co-founded.
A spokesman for Sound Talent Group told the BBC, “We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends.”
“Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today’s tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time.”
Shapiro was one of the “three employees” the company told the BBC it lost in the plane crash; the other two deaths were eventually identified as booking assistants Emma Huke and Kendall Fortner.
Tragically, photographer Celina Kenyon and Shapiro’s companion Dominic Damian both perished on the aircraft.
Although the cause of the incident has not yet been established, Dan Baker of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has identified several potential contributing causes.
According to the expert, a power surge before the accident caused the weather alert system at the airport where the plane was supposed to land to malfunction.
While the medium intensity light system with runway light indicator lights was not in operation, the pilot of the tiny aircraft is thought to have been struggling with hazy conditions prior to daybreak.
