Bomb Factory Explosion In Tennessee Leaves Several Dead And 19 Missing

Nineteen people are ‘unaccounted for’ and many people have been killed in a bomb plant blast.

Authorities confirmed today (October 10) that the explosion ripped through the Accurate Energetic Systems facility, a military munitions plant in rural Tennessee, an hour’s drive west of Nashville. The explosion sent shockwaves across Humphreys County and forced emergency personnel to hold back as smaller explosions continued to erupt.

The event occurred at the expansive eight-building facility, which produces and tests explosives for military use, at approximately noon today (local time).

At a news briefing, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis affirmed that the situation is still “extremely serious” while search teams attempt to find the missing employees.

“We do have several people at this time unaccounted for. We are trying to be mindful of families and that situation,” he said. “We do have some that are deceased.”

Thick black smoke and flames could be seen rising above the forested hills surrounding the complex in videos taken from neighboring roads. Homes shook as though they had been hit by an earthquake, and residents claimed to have heard a thunderous boom that could be heard for miles.

“I thought the house had collapsed with me inside of it,” explained Gentry Stover, a nearby resident. “I live very close to Accurate and realised about 30 seconds after I woke up that it had to have been that.”

Hickman County Advanced EMT David Stewart said that at first, it was difficult for emergency personnel to get inside the scene due to ongoing explosions.

Although authorities claim the likelihood of a large-scale explosion has decreased, minor explosions could still be heard reverberating through the neighborhood hours later.

The McEwen-based Accurate Energetic Systems has not yet released a statement to the public.

Brad Rachford, the mayor of the town, described the occurrence as “a tragedy for our community” but would not elaborate.

Nashville’s WTVF-TV stated that it received dozens of calls from locals who felt the explosion and saw smoke rising in the distance. The footage showed cars wrecked and debris strewn over the manufacturing grounds.

Jody Barrett, a state representative from Dickson, which is roughly 15 miles away, also described how his house shook.

Telling reporters, “We absolutely heard it at the house,” “It sounded like something going through the roof of our house.”

Meanwhile, Gentry Stover told Associated Press that he thought the house had ‘collapsed with me inside of it’, adding: “I live very close to Accurate and I realized about 30 seconds after I woke up that it had to have been that.”

While officials are still on the scene, collaborating with the Department of Health to confirm casualties and identify the source of the tragic explosion, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) acknowledged that there were injuries but has not yet disclosed the exact number.

The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to the public to avoid the area, and police have set up roadblocks in the vicinity, CNN reports.
