Blackpink’s Lisa Draws Criticism Over Controversial Detail In Met Gala Look

Although eccentric outfits are customary at the Met Gala, Blackpink’s Lisa’s attire has generated some controversy.

Lisa, a star of White Lotus season three and a member of the K-POP group Blackpink, made her Met Gala debut yesterday night wearing an outfit by Louis Vuitton.

Jennie, a member of Blackpink, also made her Met Gala debut wearing a stylish Chanel outfit.

As you can undoubtedly imagine, there were a lot of fashion ensembles showcasing Black style and dandyism because this year’s theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

The 28-year-old White Lotus singer looked stunning in a black lace fitted jacket over what looked like a lace bodice, black court heels, Louis Vuitton tights, and, of course, a Louis Vuitton handbag. Lisa’s attire also seemed to fit the theme.

However, her outfit’s lace design, which is thought to depict the faces of notable Black historical figures like Maya Angelou and Rosa Parks, was what caused others to take notice.

“The lace replicates elements of an artwork by the American artist Henry Taylor depicting portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life,” Louis Vuitton wrote in a statement about Lisa’s outfit construction, as per The New York Times.

These historical ladies were in a fairly uncompromising position because the lace detailing extended all the way down to her knickers portion of her outfit.

Her fashion statement has subsequently been deemed ‘disrespectful’ by Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manobal.

“I’m sorry but like isn’t having Rosa Parks, a huge historical figure, on your panties…like you know disrespectful, it’s also weird,” one person penned on Twitter.

“Who the hell decided it was a good idea to put the faces of influential black women on a pair of PANTIES,” asked another.

“Rosa Park on her underwear. This is so disrespectful wtf was she thinking,” echoed a third.

Not everyone was critical of Lisa’s custom-made outfit though. Someone raved of the unique ensemble: “The faces on the outfits kinda screammm how the detailing is soooooo on top of its games! Super cool @LouisVuitton.”

A second wrote, “Maya Angelou was an American poet, writer, and civil rights activist, best known for her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. A powerful voice for Black identity, women’s rights, and equality — her portrait is beautifully embroidered on Lisa’s Met Gala outfit.”

“Lisa’s Met Gala outfit features the silhouettes of many Black icons! Her team did an amazing job,” gushed another.

Someone else said of the singer’s outfit, “This look is EVERYTHING.”
