The large group of people was traveling to a casino in Carberry. Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill, the commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed that “at least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.”

Ten more people are receiving medical attention from the hospital. The authorities have not determined what caused the crash, despite the fact that both drivers are still alive. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent his condolences, saying that his thoughts are with the injured as well as the families of those who have lost loved ones. Heather Stefanson, the premier of Manitoba, also sent her sympathy.

This incident that happened last year, one of the bloodiest incidents in Canadian history happened. A similar catastrophe in Saskatchewan in 2018 took sixteen lives.

These tragedies serve as a reminder of how important it is to drive sensibly and cautiously in order to prevent collisions in the future.

You have little influence over what other drivers do. Some things, though, can make it less likely that you will be in a crash. This is what it means to drive defensively.

What Should I Do to Drive Safely?

Get in the right frame of mind before you drive. Pay attention, be alert, and watch out for other cars. After that:

1. Pay attention to what is going on around you. Often look in your mirrors and scan to see what is going on 20 to 30 seconds ahead of you. Do not stop moving your eyes. Slow down or stop if you see a driver who is being rude. Watch out for people walking, running, biking, and pets on the road at all times.

2. Slow down. Following the speed limit is the best way to keep control of your car. You will not be able to react as quickly if someone pulls out in front of you or runs into the road. Also, slow down when the weather is bad.

3. It is safe to follow someone if you follow the 3-second rule. As you drive, look ahead and find something on the side of the road that looks like a sign. Start counting from 0 to 3 when the car in front of you goes by. If you get to the line after three counts, you are far enough behind to be safe. Slow down if not. When the road or weather is bad, extend the distance to 6 seconds.

4. Take away any obstacles. A distraction is anything that takes your attention away, even if it is just for a second. In many places, you can get a ticket for it. Do not lose your goal until you get there. Put your phone away or set it to send a message automatically when someone calls to let them know you are driving.

5. Do not count on other cars. Be careful around other cars, but do not forget to look out for yourself. You can not be sure that another car will move over or let you merge. Instead, think that other cars might not see you or be paying attention. Plan what you will do if someone pulls out in front of you. It is important to be ready. You need to be ready because some people will run stop signs or red lights.
