Legendary Actor Treat Williams Dead at 71. The Cause Of Death Is Devastating
The latest from Hollywood is tragic. Reports indicate that iconic actor Treat Williams, who was featured in “Hair” among many other films, has passed away.
His longtime agent, Barry McPherson, told People in a statement that Treat had passed away at the age of 71 due to injuries sustained in a motorbike accident.
“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented,” McPherson claimed.
“He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”
The crash reportedly occurred on June 12 at 5 p.m. in Dorset, Vermont. Dorset’s fire chief, Jacob Gribble, told People that only one car and Treat’s motorcycle were involved in the collision.
The car’s driver likely didn’t notice the motorcyclist since they were focused on the road ahead. Williams was the only casualty, and he was flown from the site to a New York hospital where he later died of his wounds.
Williams has been in the film industry for nearly half a century, and in recent years he has become something of a tradition in both Netflix and Hallmark’s holiday specials.
Several of his coworkers have started posting their own tributes to him on various social media platforms.
Matt Boomer wrote:
“This is a tough one, and I don’t like doing this on social media, but I want to share what an absolute treasure Treat Williams was- both as an actor and a person. I was so honored that he agreed to play my father on White Collar, and he jumped in and made every day on set a joy. He taught me in the most beautiful way- through patient example. He’s one of the few actors I’ve worked with who always checked in on me – even years after we worked together. Treat- you were an amazing actor and an even better person and I will miss you. I count myself so blessed to have known you. My heart goes out to your wife and children. Rest in Peace my friend.”
