A Mugshot Of The Georgia School Shooter Has Been Made Public With Very Disturbing Information About His Home Life
The 14-year-old who is suspected of carrying out a school shooting in Georgia has issued his first mugshot.
Two kids and two teachers were killed in the horrific incident that happened at Apalachee High School on Wednesday morning.
Details revealed by authorities during a news conference on Wednesday night are that Colt Gray, 14, is suspected of opening fire inside the school at around 10:30 AM, as reported by the New York Post.
Four people were named as the victims: math teachers Christina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall, as well as 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angelo.
This new piece from the New York Post provides more insight into Gray’s background.
Lauren Vickers, a former neighbor who lived in Jefferson, Georgia, next door to the Gray family, related unsettling experiences to the source.
“There were nights where the mom would lock him and his sister out of the house. They’d be banging on the back door, just screaming, ‘Mom! Mom!’ and crying. It was absolutely devastating,” she claimed.
Vickers also claimed that the youngest child would sometimes come to her yard asking for food, alleging: “No clean clothes, I’m not exaggerating. It was constant abuse. It’s very, very sad.”
Marcee, Gray’s mother, 43, has a lengthy criminal history that includes drug charges and arrests for domestic abuse.
Vickers claimed that she was often the center of attention in the area.
“I would find her in the driveway, passed out, with the car running and music blaring early in the morning,” she said, describing incidents where Marcee allegedly drove her younger child to daycare while intoxicated.
According to reports, Gray’s 54-year-old father, Colin, gave his son an AR-15 gun for Christmas last year, despite an earlier FBI inquiry regarding threats Colt had made online.
Authorities now claim that the deadly incident involved the usage of this gun.
Colt’s maternal grandfather, Charles Polhamus, told CNN: “He was just a good kid who lived in an environment that was hostile. His dad beat up on him—not physically, but screaming and hollering, and he did the same thing to my daughter.”
After Colt was arrested, a photo of him was made public.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into past interactions between the family and the state’s child protective services organization in an effort to determine Colt Gray’s shooting motivation.
GBI Director Chris Hosey said: “We are pursuing that avenue as well to see if that has any connection with today’s incident.”
Vickers claimed that despite her repeated calls to child services, little action was taken. “They came, talked to me, and did nothing,” she said.
Gray is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Gray has been charged with four counts of murder as an adult.
Authorities are still looking into what exactly led up to the unfortunate incident, so it’s unclear why he shot people.
