Off The Record
A Lovely Rendition Of “Imagine” Was Performed During Jimmy Carter’s Funeral
According to all reports, Jimmy Carter had the wonderful send-off he so richly deserved.
The former US president passed away on December 29, 2024, after a prolonged period of poor health. In fact, he received a cancer diagnosis in 2015, and in early 2023, he entered hospice care at the end of his life.
Carter died just two days before the new year, despite exceeding even the most optimistic of timelines by living for nearly two years after being put to hospice, which sparked a flood of condolences.
Not surprisingly, considering the influence the former peanut farmer turned statesman had both during and after his tenure in the White House, his funeral, held on Thursday, January 9, was a spectacular event that promised a who’s who of names in US politics and beyond.

Country music artists Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who are both known to be friends of Carter, provided one of the most heartfelt moments of the farewell ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral.
Just over a year after performing Imagine by John Lennon at the funeral of Carter’s wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, the pair sang the song again with poignancy.
Undoubtedly, the mirrored elements of the two funerals’ tributes resonated deeply with many online, prompting many to express their sympathies through social media.
Former President Carter’s remains was taken back to Georgia for a private funeral service in his hometown of Plains following the memorial in Washington. Carter taught Sunday school at the Maranatha Baptist Church, where the service was held.
After that, Carter and his wife were driven to a private burial.
