A Father From South Carolina Was Killed By “Showboating” When A Lit Firework He Had Placed On His Head Exploded

A video showing the victim dancing in the hours prior to the horrific occurrence surfaced, and the family of the South Carolina man who died after a firework he put on his head detonated said they are “traumatized” by his passing.

Before the horrible tragedy in Summerville, some 35 minutes north of Charleston, Allen Ray McGrew was caught on tape smoking a cigarette and performing a humorous dance while fully clothed in a red, white, and blue Uncle Sam suit, complete with a top hat and beard.

He stomped his feet and stealthily flashed his finger guns while mortars smoldered behind him.

The video showed his favorite holiday, which he was celebrating with friends and family, who watched and laughed.

Someone laughed, “He’s dancing to his own tune,” while someone else mentioned that the “big show” was about to begin.

Subsequently, 41-year-old HVAC worker McGrew topped his stars-and-stripes hat with a huge lit firework.

Before he put it on the ground, his wife Paige Morris McGrew told the Post and Courier, “I thought he was just showboating.

I was unaware that he had already ignited it.

McGrew most likely died instantly from his head injuries sustained when the firecracker exploded.

On Thursday, the site authorities declared him dead.

Reports indicate that nearly 10 people each year are killed in firework-related incidents.

Hunter McGrew, his 20-year-old son, told The Post on Saturday, “We’re traumatized.

The family, who have been inundated with inquiries since the tragic incident, stated that any depiction of McGrew as a “drunk fool” is untrue.

The father did not drink much, but on this particular day, he celebrated his son’s engagement in addition to Independence Day.

According to his wife, the ecstatic father had celebrated the arrival of a daughter-in-law by going “all out.

Paige McGrew, 53, told The Post, “He loved this country and looked forward to celebrating every year.

She recalled, “He hugged me and his son right before the incident happened, and he said, ‘You are my rock, and you are my heart.’

His son is his heart, and I am his rock.

After dating since at least 2017, the pair only got married last year. Adorable pictures from their April 2023 wedding were released on social media, showing them wearing identical “Mr.” and “Mrs.” T-shirts.

McGrew’s family and friends remembered him as a hard worker and helpful neighbor.

She reportedly said she’ll remember him as a “genuine, good person” who “loved life.”

“He worked hard,” she said of the HVAC worker, “and he played hard.”

“He was a patriot; he was proud of his son and he was excited to have a new daughter-in-law. He was living his best life last night,” Paige McGrew said.

He was regarded by his neighbors as “the nicest guy” who was always willing to help out and would mow everyone’s grass.

Reports state that this year’s fireworks mishaps have claimed the lives of at least four people and injured a large number of others, including numerous on Long Island.
