A 27-Year-Old National Football Player Died After A Tragedy In The 84th Minute Of A Game
On August 22, 2024, during National’s match versus Sao Paulo, a football player collapsed and died.
Due to an abnormal heartbeat, 27-year-old Juan Izquierdo, a defender for National, fainted on the field during a Copa Libertadores match. Over the next few days, his condition deteriorated.
Juan collapsed during Nacional’s match against Sao Paulo late this month, resulting in a heart attack. The Uruguayan athlete was receiving medical care at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital at the time of his passing.
Juan’s condition worsened after Nacional stated that it was stable. August 25, 2024, saw him put on a ventilator, and as of August 26, 2024, he was receiving neurological treatment.
The defender replaced former Liverpool star Sebastián Coates at halftime in the game he collapsed in. Without making touch with another player, Juan passed out in the eighty-fourth minute.
He was brought to a critical care unit right away after receiving emergency medical attention on the field, but he passed away a few days later. Juan had surprisingly no known history of cardiac problems before to this episode.
A heartbroken and shocked Club Nacional announced the death of their beloved player on X on August 28, 2024. They also wrote, “We express our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones. All of Nacional is in mourning for his irreparable loss.”
The second child of Juan and Selena was born a little more than ten days ago, according to accounts in the media. Their daughter, who is their firstborn, is only 2.5 years old. The football player loved his wife and would always celebrate his victories with her and their children in mind.
He once gushed, “There were days when I would come home really sad, but luckily, I have a woman who is worth her weight in gold and who helped me see the positive side of things. Her support was crucial.”
Selena wrote a heartbreaking letter, saying the day her husband died, a part of him left her. She penned, “Today I had to say goodbye to my other half, the love of my life. To many, Juan Izquierdo. To me, Juanma, my best friend, my husband, the father of my children, my unconditional support.”
Selena revealed that despite her intense loss, she must now find the fortitude to support their children and continue. She admitted that her spouse persisted in fighting to the very end.
The mom of two also noted that his absence will be deeply felt with every step she takes and that she will miss him for the rest of her life. “You left so much life to live, so much path to walk, my Juanma,” added Selena.
Selena expressed gratitude to everyone who thought of him and offered support. She mentioned that today, Juanma watches over her and their children from above. “I will love you all my life, my warrior. This time, we faced a loss,” she wrote.
Friends and admirers of Juan have offered their sympathies to his loved ones and family. After learning the news, a representative for São Paulo, a Brazilian team, said it was an extremely sad day for football.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed deep sadness upon hearing of the tragic passing of the footballer. He said, “On behalf of Fifa and the entire footballing community, I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP.”
