Limp Bizkit’s Sam Rivers Shared Emotional Final Post Just Hours Before His Death
Just hours before he passed away, Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers tweeted exciting festival news and a heartfelt tribute to his fans.
The 48-year-old Rivers was described as “pure magic” and a “once-in-a-lifetime kind of human” by the Nu mental pioneers when they announced his death on Sunday, October 19.
“In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers. Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat,” a statement posted via the official Limp Bizkit Instagram account read.
“Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”
Rivers “brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced,” the group said of the Florida native, who co-founded the three-time Grammy-nominated ensemble with Fred Durst and John Otto.
“His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous,” they continued. “He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory.”

“We love you, Sam. We’ll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends.”
Limp Bizkit’s message was made just hours after Rivers posted a video on Instagram that would be his last, with the Cars’ 1978 smash song “Good Times Roll” as the music.
The little video commemorated the 25th anniversary of the band’s third album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.
The 15-track album, which was released on October 16, 2000, is the fastest-selling rock album ever. It includes the well-known songs “My Generation” and “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle).”
The musician wrote, “Nothing but love.”
In addition to paying tribute to the album, Rivers used his final post to advertise Limp Bizkit’s recently revealed headline appearance at the Rock For People event.
They were formally announced as joining Iron Maiden and Bring Me The Horizon, two acts that had already been scheduled to perform at the festival in Czechia.
On June 11, 2026, the rockers are scheduled to take over the mainstage. The announcement of the event follows the release of “Making Love To Morgan Wallen,” their first song in four years, in September.
Rivers has been receiving a ton of tributes, including a sorrowful dedication from DJ Lethal, a Limp Bizkit turntabalist.
The artist, whose real name is Leor Dimant, wrote, “We love you Sam Rivers. Please respect the family’s privacy at this moment. Give Sam his flowers and play Sam Rivers basslines all day! We are in shock.”
The musician will “live on” through his vast discography, charitable endeavors, and friendships, he continued.
“Enjoy every millisecond of life. It’s not guaranteed.”
Rivers notoriously left Limp Bizkit in 2015, claiming that his “excessive” drinking had caused liver damage.
Writing about his health struggles in his book Raising Hell: Backstage Tales From the Lives of Metal Legends, the icon explained, “I had to leave Limp Bizkit in 2015 because I felt so horrible, and a few months after that I realized I had to change everything because I had really bad liver disease.”
“I quit drinking and did everything the doctors told me. I got treatment for the alcohol and got a liver transplant, which was a perfect match,” he added, as per Variety.
Three years later, Rivers returned to the band.
The circumstances of Rivers’ death have not yet been made public by officials.
