Amazon Worker Emails Jeff Bezos About Low Pay — His Reply Leaves Her Speechless

An Amazon employee had no idea what would happen when she called Jeff Bezos personally with a wage disagreement, avoiding HR in the process.

61 years old Having grown Amazon from his garage into the fifth most valuable company in the world based on Companies Market Cap, Bezos is among the wealthiest men on the planet.

The father of four received an email from Tara Jones, an Amazon warehouse employee in Oklahoma, one year prior to giving current CEO Andy Jassy control of the business in July 2021.

According to the narrative, Jones was meant to get paid $540 while he was on medical leave. However, she discovered a sizable portion was gone when she opened it.

Jones informed Amazon representatives that $90 was missing from her paycheck.

She took matters into her own hands and sent a private email to Bezos, the CEO at the time, when it happened again.

In the note, as seen by the New York Times, Jones lamented: “I’m behind on bills, all because the pay team messed up. I’m crying as I write this email.”

The worker would soon discover that she wasn’t the only employee who had been missing money.

According to the outlet, 179 additional warehouse workers had been underpaid for almost 18 months until her email sparked a company-wide probe.

Some employees who were impacted by the error said they were dismissed after the program recorded their medical leave as absences, while another employee said they had to have their car repossessed.

Doctors’ notes were reportedly “vanishing” inexplicably from the system in the meanwhile.

In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel told The Independent: “We’re disappointed when any of our employees experience an issue with their leave.”

“The New York Times article suggested these issues are widespread and ongoing. They are not.”

“We went back and audited the period in question to make sure employees received their pay, and to our knowledge, there are no outstanding issues.”

“The controls we’ve implemented over the last 18 months have resulted in less than one percent of people experiencing an issue while being on paid leave.”

“Certainly, the unprecedented nature of COVID did put a strain on our system’s ability to keep pace with demand and we’ve been hard at work investing and inventing to do better every day.”

It’s interesting to note that Jones is not the only individual who approaches Bezos directly and receives responses nearly instantly.

An Amazon consumer reported being irritated after purchasing a “high value item” that cost them £1,099.97 ($1,480), according to a Reddit thread called LegalAdviceUK.

The valuable item, which was secured by a one-time password, was discovered to have been marked as delivered even though the customer did not actually hold it.

They messaged Bezos instead of playing around, and a senior customer relations officer quickly responded, offering them a gift card and a complete refund.

Going straight to the top does pay off sometimes, don’t you think?
