Jimmy Kimmel Faces 3 Conditions To Get Back On Air Following Charlie Kirk Controversy
Jimmy Kimmel’s inflammatory remark regarding Charlie Kirk would only result in the reinstatement of his show if he fulfills three requirements.
Jimmy Kimmel Live!, his talk show, was suspended ‘indefinitely’ on Wednesday, September 17, according to Sinclair, the largest ABC affiliate group in the country.
It follows the September 10 shooting death of Charlie Kirk, a political activist and Donald Trump supporter, who was shot in the neck during a debate at Utah Valley University.
He was giving a speech at an event hosted by Turning Point USA, his conservative political charity. However, Kirk was shot in front of 3,000 people, including his wife and two little children. Kirk had previously stated that certain gun deaths were “worth it” in order to uphold the Second Amendment.

Since then, Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with seven offenses, including obstruction of justice and aggravated murder.
At the start of a recent episode of his long-running television program, Kimmel addressed the matter.
He played a video of a reporter outside the White House asking Trump how he was “holding up” following Kirk’s passing.
Trump swiftly and very oddly responded, “I think very good,” before completely changing the topic and discussing the repairs taking place at his home in Washington, D.C.
Gesturing toward the site, Trump added, “And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get for about 150 years. And it’s gonna be a beauty. It’ll be an absolutely magnificent structure.”
The remarks drew sharp criticism from Kimmel, who quipped, “He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?”
Kimmel then played another video of Trump talking to Fox News the week before, in which he once more shifted the subject to his planned White House ballroom in response to a question regarding Kirk’s murder.
The late-night host doubled down on his critique: “There’s something wrong with him, there really is. Who thinks like that? We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to paint this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything but one of their own, while doing everything they can to turn it into political points.”
Since then, Trump has demanded that Kimmel be fired for his remarks.
The three demands Kimmel must meet
Sinclair wrote a statement outlining the actions Kimmel would have to follow to get his program back on the air.
It was made clear by the business that ‘formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and responsibility’ before the suspension is lifted.
Kimmel was also urged by Sinclair to “make a meaningful personal donation” to Turning Point USA and the Kirk Family in addition to “issuing a direct apology to the Kirk family.”
“Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform,” Sinclair stated.
Kimmel has not yet commented on the matter.
