Man Mocks Wife On Valentine’s Day, Discovers Heartbreaking Truth After Her Death
On Valentine’s Day, a husband threw away his wife’s gift after becoming angry and accusing her of being a bad housewife. Later that day, however, a stranger showed up at their home, and he regretted his choice.
Cora Morales surprised herself by being so happy, spending the morning in a bubble of joy. As she sat in the living room, crossing things off her evening to-do list, she blushed and wondered how happy Eric would be to see the Valentine’s Day surprise she had planned for him.
Eric and Cora first met in Texas at a business convention. They both wanted a big, happy family one day because they were orphans who had grown up in foster care.
Fortunately, that didn’t take long since two years after they went on a few dates, they were married and had triplets.
But when Eric took over as the family’s main provider and Cora had to step in to watch the kids, things grew a little uncomfortable.
Raising a family of five required Eric to put in his all, which led to stress and a sense of shame that he could never spend enough time with them. Even worse, by the end of the month, he was still unable to save enough money and received little respite on the weekends.
As a result, even on exceptional occasions, they hadn’t travelled or eaten at a fancy restaurant in years. Cora was well aware that Eric was determined to save every penny, so she never wasted the little money they had and always made prudent purchases.
She wore an old red dress that Eric had given her for their first wedding anniversary, even on Valentine’s Day. She didn’t mind dressing up for the big event even if it was a little out of style because it was special to her and saved her additional money.
She was most excited about setting the table for two when she realised it was almost time for Eric to arrive. She did this by placing a gift box next to his plate, his favourite red velvet cheesecake, which she had painstakingly baked in the shape of a heart, a bottle of wine, and a few other dishes she had prepared.
“Perfect!” she thought to herself as she finally switched on the fairy lights and scattered aromatic candles across the room. Nearly thirty minutes after the doorbell rung, Eric was at home.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, honey!” she exclaimed, giving him a cheek kiss before escorting him inside.
When Eric entered the room, he was bewildered by the food-laden dining table, the candle-lit room, and the rose petals placed from the entryway to the table. “What on Earth have you done, Cora? Are we some stupid teenagers?” he lashed out as a fit of anger grasped him.
As soon as Eric turned on every light in the room and gave her a fierce look, Cora’s smile vanished. “My dear! What’s the matter? Are you angry about something? Has something occurred at work?
We are unable to think rationally when we are angry.
“Are you serious?” he yelled. “Is this why I work my ass off? So that you can blow everything on some sort of crap like this?!”
“Oh, Eric! Calm down! I did not overdo it!” As she guided him to the table, she softly said, “The ingredients did cost a little more, but it wasn’t much.” “Please have a seat and tell me how you like the food?”
Eric was furious. He was actually furious. He spat the Aglio e Olio on the table after taking a bite out of it. “Why in the world is the pasta so bad?” The triplets were sound sleeping in their chamber when he screamed, “And why does the sauce taste like shit?”
“Eric!” cried Cora. “What’s wrong with you? The babies…I put them to sleep about a half-hour ago, and you just woke them up!”
“So? Is that also my fault? Cora, I work all day while you stay at home and play with the kids! And what the hell is this?” he snapped as he took the gift box in his hands. “A gift?” He flung it on the floor and glared at her. “I’m not a kid who’d get impressed by something like that, okay? Have you seen the kitchen? Do you know why it’s so piled high with dishes? Let me explain why. Because you were too busy preparing this crap to look after the house!”
“Eric, you’re not possible! It’s unbelievable that you’re the same man I married after falling in love with! Are you unable to leave? As she made her way to the children’s room, she complained. But the sobbing sound persisted, which made Eric even more upset.”
“Why haven’t the children fallen silent yet?” You’re the ideal mother and homemaker, aren’t you? “Cora, learn to do at least something right!” he shouted from the living room.
And hearing his taunts, Cora stormed out of the room angrily. “They are crying because I need to change the diapers, but we don’t have any at home! So keep your mouth shut and look after them until I get back. The store is a little far from here, so it’ll take time!” she screamed as she walked out of the house and slammed the door behind her.
“Yeah! And then you claim you’re a housewife, and you stay at home…” Eric continued grumbling and mocking Cora for being a terrible homemaker as he walked to the kids’ room.
It was nearly an hour later. Cora did not come home, and the children continued to weep. “What’s the matter with you, Cora?” With a moan, he headed to the living room to get his phone and give her a call. “I can’t believe it’s taking you so long to get a packet of nappies!”
The doorbell rang abruptly. “She’s right here!” He started to ask, “Cora, how long does it take you to just…” but stopped as he saw a police officer on his porch. “Does Cora Morales live here?”
“Yes?”
“You, uh, her husband?” As he said, the officer cleared his throat.
Eric gave a nod.
“I regret to inform you that your wife lost her life in an automobile accident. Come with us and identify the body, please. Her driver’s license contained her address.”
Eric felt a jolt and his face went white. The police officer saw the candlelit table when he peered inside the residence. He felt guilty at one point for having to break the terrible news, but he was powerless to stop it.
While still shaking from the shock, Eric was able to phone Mrs. Nelson, their neighbour next door, and ask her to watch the triplets while he was out. When he arrived to the mortuary, he was shocked to see Cora’s pale, lifeless body. Feeling bad about snapping at her, he broke down in tears and withdrew to his house after the funeral the following day. He had no desire to think or act.
He looked at the table Cora had set, and everything that had happened the night before flashed before his eyes. Then he thought of Cora’s present. “The present…I didn’t even bother to open it. After searching the room feverishly, he eventually found it on the floor.”
With unsteady hands, he opened the present and discovered a note containing two Hawaii plane tickets. After wiping away his emotions, he opened the letter and began reading it.

Honey, happy Valentine’s Day! This month, guess who got a job? I started applying at several locations after noticing that you were worn out from working alone, and yesterday afternoon I received a call informing me that I had been hired for the job!
In addition, Mrs. Nelson consented to watch the children so that I could continue working, knowing that our children are in capable hands. It’s not the only surprise, though! Do you see those tickets? It’s for the two of us on our Hawaii vacation! (I have other plans as well, but you will learn about them later, hehe!)
Eric started crying like a kid after he was done reading the note. However, he was powerless to help. He would have to deal with the loss of Cora for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, that is exactly what took place.
After that day, Eric never fell in love again, and his life was never the same. He just put in a lot of effort to raise his kids well and provide them the best. He now spends every Valentine’s Day at Cora’s grave, where he spends hours discussing anything that comes to mind and wishing he could have asked her for forgiveness.
