Unbelievable Rumors Connecting Robert Irwin And Shawn Mendes Spread Online

Although breaking the internet is nothing new to Robert Irwin, it appears that the Wildlife Warrior is at the focus of yet another online controversy.

This time, the controversy is about outrageous false photos of 26-year-old Canadian musician Shawn Mendes, rather than his obscene Bonds knickers.

Due to a number of clickbait titles and AI-generated postings that imply they are secretly dating, the pair has been strangely romantically associated.

The romance allegations are obviously untrue, and insiders claim that the Irwin family is as perplexed as the rest of us.

The odd combination began in 2022 when the Treat You Better hitmaker partnered with 21-year-old Robert and Oscar winner Javier Bardem to promote the animated movie Lyle, Lyle Crocodile.

Robert shares his love of reptiles with the two in the film as he tests them on crocodile facts.    

The seemingly harmless footage was enough to trigger matching on the internet.

Aspiring followers on X and TikTok have been busy creating AI-generated jokes and pictures that portray the pair as a phoney couple.

The pair has even been hailed as the “perfect match” by some cheeky users, who have called it the “crocodile love story we never saw coming!”

A phoney, clickbait-filled picture of Shawn leaning in to kiss an unknown individual is superimposed on a picture of Robert showing off his physique in Bond’s pants.

The fake headline on the image reads, “He didn’t say a word, but one quiet gesture from Shawn Mendes to Robert Irwin is breaking the internet – and fans think it means everything.”

One more displays a tryptic of images: one of Shawn leaning back on a couch, another of him and Robert cuddling, and a third of a smiling Robert by himself.

The headline on the fake image reads, “Shawn Mendes and Robert Irwin just shared a moment so low-key, it broke the internet.”

Insiders claim that the Irwin family is unable to provide an explanation for the abruptly created fictitious relationship.

A person close to the family told Daily Mail Australia, “It’s been a whirlwind.”

“People are congratulating Robert on social media like it’s official, but he and Shawn are obviously just friends.”

“Shawn has always had fun with fans’ theories, but there’s clearly nothing going on romantically,” they added. 

Many followers are drooling over the couple on social media, suggesting that the clickbait is working even though the relationship is fake.

“Well, it’s about time we saw some exciting news! I’ve been following Shawn Mendes for years, and I think he deserves all the happiness in the world,” one fan wrote on Facebook.

“Let’s keep our fingers crossed for this potential new couple!”

Another added: “According to “so called” news reports I keep getting on my feed, this now makes around 10 different people Shawn is supposed to be in “a romance” with.”

Robert Irwin has been contacted by Daily Mail Australia for comment.   

Known for dating Camila Cabello, the Grammy-nominated singer has been candid about putting his mental health first by taking a break from performing.

Although he has been the subject of sexuality-related enquiries for years, Shawn has never provided any confirmation.

Back in October, the Señorita hitmaker addressed the “truth” about his romantic life in front of the audience at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Monday.

The singer acknowledged that sexuality was a complicated topic and told his followers that he was attempting to be “really brave.”

“There’s this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it so long,” Shawn said, saying it was “kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”

“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone.”

He continued, “It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me. Something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover and still have yet to discover it.”

“And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that. And I’m trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be a human and feel things. And that’s all I really want to say about that for now.”

In the meantime, Robert and Rorie Buckley announced their breakup in February 2024 after nearly two years of dating.

In February of this year, he also allegedly ended his relationship with Charlotte Briggs, a coworker at the Australia Zoo, his “secret” girlfriend.

When the couple arrived in Sydney together in July 2024, before of the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star’s stint on The Project, they appeared to be a couple.

However, insiders now tell Daily Mail Australia that their intentions to ‘hard launch’ their relationship have ‘fizzled’. Earlier reports said they began dating in November.

“It seems like the tide has turned on that,” confirmed one source from the South African set of the Channel Ten show.

“The itinerary has changed and what has changed for Robert personally is what has many over here suspecting that his post-jungle relationship is over.”
