Mass Shooting At North Carolina House Party Leaves 1 Dead, 11 Injured

A shooting in North Carolina has resulted in the death of at least one person.

One person was killed and eleven people were injured after shooting broke out during a home party in a peaceful town in North Carolina overnight.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 12:45 AM on Sunday, June 1, authorities were summoned to a residence on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View neighbourhood near Hickory, which is roughly 60 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Approximately 55 miles northwest of Charlotte lies the single-street community known as Walnut Acres.

Per a report from NBC News, the sheriff’s office confirmed: “As of this release, twelve victims have been reported,” adding, “One of these reported victims is deceased. Another of these reported victims is in critical condition. Several others remain hospitalized.”

Whether the victims are connected or live in the house where the incident occurred has not been revealed by the authorities.

The incident happened at a pool party, according to a local who told WBTV that the gunfire “occurred mostly outside and appeared to be random.”

According to the Hickory Record, Maj. Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office also stated that there were about 100 attendees, including minors.

According to him, the crime scene is spread across multiple locations, including the front and back yards, the home itself, and even a nearby yard. Investigators are trying to identify the sorts of firearms that were used, as multiple weapons were involved.

The Hickory Police Department and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting.

To help with the ongoing investigation and to “establish a motive and identify those responsible,” special agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation were called in, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities had not issued any information about potential suspects as of Sunday morning, and no arrests had been made.
