Teen Nearly Dies After Necklace Electrocutes Him In Freak Phone Charger Accident

A distressed mother says her teenage son nearly lost his life in a strange incident involving a phone charger.

Mother of six One night, Danielle Davis of Yukon, Oklahoma, in the United States, woke up to the sound of a deafening scream emanating from her son’s bedroom next door.

Rayce Ogdahl, 16, showed up in the hallway with “scorched burns” over his neck when she went to look into it.

In a strange mishap, Davis’ kid told her he had been electrocuted.

In order to receive treatment for his injuries, the teenager was taken to the burns unit of Integris Health Baptist Medical Centre in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and admitted to the intensive care unit.

Davis is thankful that her son was not killed that evening.

Rayce had told his mother that he had been electrocuted by his own necklace when the exposed prong of a plug came into touch with the cross chain.

The cross and necklace tore the chain off his neck, leaving a three-inch hole in his mattress that burned.

“It was a normal night and we’d only been asleep for around an hour when we half heard a noise then heard yelling from Rayce’s room. We thought maybe he’s playing a video game and getting frustrated,” Davis recounted.

“Then I heard him shout ‘mom’ and my son was standing in the hallway. He said ‘I’ve been electrocuted. It was my necklace.’ There were scorch necks around his neck.”

“And the smell was awful. The whole house smelled like burnt hair and skins and electrical burns. We started calling 911 for an ambulance.”

“He explained to us that he was in bed, rolled over to get comfortable when he heard something fall off the bed. He said he wanted to make sure his phone was still charging so his alarm would go off for school the next day.”

“He said he leaned out of the bed and when he did the cross necklace around his neck made contact with the prongs from the plug in an extension cord which were just barely exposed.”

Rayce knew he was being electrocuted and was “completely conscious.” When he attempted to tear the chain off his neck, he also burned his hands.

“He told me his whole body hurt and he thought he was going to die,” Davis continued.

Doctors informed Rayce’s family that he had suffered “enough amps to kill him” after he was taken to the hospital. Over the following few days, they kept an eye on his heart’s performance.

Due to the bizarre mishap, the teenager sustained second, third, and fourth degree burns and will always be disfigured.

Davis, who is now urging others to remain vigilant of electrical cords, wires, and plugs, said, “You can see the pattern of the necklace on his neck. It’s left a significant mark.”

“He’s got a lot of scars. They’re speaking about doing a skin graft but Rayce doesn’t want that unless it’s medically necessary.”

“It’s almost his entire neck that’s covered in scars. It’s from his chin to his collarbone. The incident has definitely made Rayce a lot more self-aware. It was very eye-opening.”

“We’re just so grateful he’s okay. He could’ve easily died that night. It was amazing he was still conscious and could still alert us. It would’ve been a different story.”

“When it comes to your phone, there’s not a text message or notification that is important enough to have your phone on your bed. Anything can happen and Rayce is proof of that.”

“Pay attention to your cords and I would recommend to anybody don’t use extension cords at all.”
