How Much Was Pope Francis Really Worth? Shocking Details Emerge After His Passing

The net worth of Pope Francis at the time of his death has been published after the Roman Catholic Church head died at the age of 88.

Francis, whose true name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, had been unwell for a few months due to a respiratory infection, minor kidney failure, and chronic bronchitis that progressed to pneumonia in both lungs.

While many assumed Francis was on the mend after he was discharged from hospital earlier this month, the Vatican revealed on Monday (April 21) that Francis had died at 7:35am local time.

Camerlengo Cardinal Kevin Farrell said: “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7.35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father.”

“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church.”

“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalized.”

“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Tribune.″

Despite not receiving compensation since taking office as Pope in 2013, Francis’ net worth was estimated to be close to $16 million at the time of his death, according to The Mirror.

During his tenure as Pope, Francis made a number of moves that undoubtedly demonstrated his thrift.

Francis was entitled to a staggering $385,000 annually, which could now be given to a family member, paid to a foundation, or even given back to the church.

In spite of his enormous wealth, Francis dedicated his life to helping the less fortunate, notably the homeless in Buenos Aires, where he was born and raised.

In addition, even though several of his predecessors lived in the Papal Palace, the Pope chose not to do so.

Francis would instead reside in a more conventional type of housing.

Vice President JD Vance is among the many tributes that have been sent in since the Vatican revealed Francis’ tragic death.

Less than twenty-four hours before the Pope’s death, on Easter Sunday, April 20, Vance, a convert to Catholicism, visited with Francis.

This morning, the vice president paid his respects to Francis on Twitter.

Vance wrote, “I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him.”

“I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful.”
