The Runner Who “Attacked” Her Opponent With A Baton During A Significant Race Has Disclosed The Reason For Her Actions

After a video from a track competition went viral showing an opponent being struck in the head with a baton, Alaila Everett just shared her side of the story.

On March 7, Kaelen Tucker, a sprinter for Brookville High School in Virginia, was struck in the back of the head with a baton during a competition, resulting in a concussion and perhaps a fractured skull.

A widely shared video captured the unsettling moment as she ran the second leg of the 4×200-meter relay at Liberty University in Virginia.

After Tucker passed her on the track’s turn, it seemed that Alaila Everett, a competitor from I.C. Norcom High School, purposefully struck her.

After the incident, you can hear the audience gasp as Tucker, who was hurt, collapses to the ground.

Many people criticized Everett and demanded that she be removed from the sport when the video swiftly went viral on social media.

But the teenage sprinter has given her version of events and stated that it was unintentional in an interview with WAVYTV10.

Through tears, she said: “Everybody has feelings, so you’re physically hurt but you are not thinking about my mental, right.”

“They are going off of one angle.”

Telling her version of events she said: “After a couple times of hitting her with my baton, I got stuck behind her back like this and it rolled up her back.”

“I lost my balance, and when I pumped my arms again, she got hit.”

“I know my intentions and I would never hit somebody on purpose.”

Everett’s parents accept her account of what happened and have maintained that she would never purposefully attempt to strike an opponent.

The parents have also stated that they are seeking a protective order and have been handed court documents by Tucker’s relatives.

Since this was absent from the ceremony, the Tucker family has also stated that they are expecting for at least an apology.

Tucker’s family told local news: “They were beside us at the event. They were watching the video at the event, but no one apologized or came to check on her.”

“Even if it was a fluke or freak accident, you still would check on her.”

Everett has stated that she wishes to apologize, but Tucker has blocked her on social media and has not been “receptive.”

Tucker’s mother, Tamarro, apparently called the organization that oversees the sport, and they claim to have opened an investigation into the alleged attack.
