Off The Record
Why Harrison Ford Abruptly Dropped Out And Will Not Be Presenting At The 2025 Oscars
Here’s why Harrison Ford left the Oscars just hours before the ceremony was scheduled to start in Los Angeles.
Many Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor, are up for grabs at the 97th Academy Awards, which are being hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
With films like Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked nominated for Best Picture, moviegoers are especially interested in this category.
Along with Dave Bautista, Gal Gadot, Samuel L. Jackson, and Zoe Saldaña, Ford was revealed last week as one of the presenters for the awards presentation.

Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill has since taken Ford’s place, meanwhile, as his manager confirmed to ABC that the iconic actor skipped the Oscars after receiving a shingles diagnosis on Saturday (March 1).
Despite opting out, Ford is ‘doing OK’ physically, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Ford’s officials have been contacted by UNILAD for comment.
The Mayo Clinic states that shingles is a painful rash caused by a viral infection. You can get shingles anywhere on your body.
A’single stripe of blisters that wraps across the left side or the right side of your chest’ is usually one of the more noticeable symptoms.
According to the NHS, other symptoms include a headache or an overall feeling of being ill.
Due to previous health issues, some fans expressed anxiety about Ford’s public appearance at Disney’s D23 Expo last year.
In August of last year, Ford was honored with an award for his illustrious work at Lucasfilm.
Ford etched his hands into the cement to mark this occasion, but many of his admirers were alarmed by his appearance.
Harrison seemed to be holding up the other hand with his adjacent hand while signing his name next to his hands.
Many people noticed the taped events that Good Morning America shared on Instagram.
One user typed: “He does not look well,” whilst another wrote: “Congrats to him, but it breaks my heart to see him so frail.”
However, the majority of comments focused on Ford’s incredible achievement, with one enthused fan penning on social media: “His smile has always been my fav,” as another wrote: “Loved how when Mickey touched him on the shoulder … instantly he smiled!!! The magical world Disney!”
The most shocking Oscars moments ever
On the red carpet, Angelina Jolie and her brother share a kiss (2000).
On the red carpet following the event, Jolie’s affectionate homage to her brother James Haven following her win for Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted took a far more unusual turn.
Jolie said during her acceptance speech: “I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now.”
“He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that.”
So far, so good, but after the ceremony, the couple shared a kiss in front of photographers on the red carpet.
Reflecting on the incident in 2007, James said: “I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely. She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas.”
“I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing.”
When Brody was nominated for Best Actor the last time, he surprised Berry and everyone else by kissing her passionately while she gave him the trophy.
Berry said in 2017: “I was like, ‘What the f**k is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind.”
She was sympathetic for how the moment may have gone to Brody’s head, however, adding: “I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body, I just f**king went with it.”
On the campaign trail for The Brutalist this year, Bordy said of the moment in an interview with Variety: “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing.”
“And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
John Travolta’s name is difficult for most people to pronounce, whereas Idina Menzel’s name is easy for most.
When he invited her to perform onstage, the Grease icon ended up referring to her as Adele Dazeem. It’s unclear how exactly he came up with that pronunciation.
Travolta later apologised, saying in a statement: “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought … what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!”
“Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
Best Film, the night’s most coveted prize, was set to be revealed back in 2017.
The Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone musical La La Land, which was seen as the clear favorite to win, was declared the winner by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.
Jordan Horowitz, a producer on the movie, was presented another envelope revealing that they had not won after all, two and a half minutes after the La La Land team had begun their acceptance remarks.
“There’s a mistake,” he said. “Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke.”
It turned out that earlier in the evening, Emma Stone for La La Land received the envelope for Best Actress, which Beatty had somehow received.
It turned into a mortifying experience for all involved. Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said afterwards: “I noticed the commotion but I was speechless when the result was altered. I’ve never seen that happen before.”
After presenter Chris Rock made a foolish joke about the Men in Black star’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Smith stormed onto the stage and thrashed him, making it maybe the most dramatic moment in Oscar history.
In response to her shorn head, Rock remarked on stage, “Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2.” Since Jada has been transparent about her battles with alopecia, many people saw this as a slight.
Cue Smith striding on stage and smacking Rock, later yelling at him: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.”
The bright side of all of this was that Smith was prohibited from going to the Oscars for ten years, even though he later that night uncomfortably accepted the Best Actor prize.
Smith apologised for his behaviour several times in the months following, saying: “One of the things about that moment, I just didn’t realise, I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment.”
