A New “Limitless” Energy Source Was Found That Could Power The Whole Country For 60,000 Years

A ‘limitless’ energy source has been found by scientists that could potentially power a nation for 60,000 years.

It’s incredible that scientists are still discovering great things about our planet, even although humans have been here for a long time.

There may be more of a particular radioactive element in China than previously thought, according to a recently declassified research that was published in the Chinese journal Geological Review.

According to Interesting Engineering, thorium is a silver-colored metal that has an energy output 200 times greater than that of uranium.

Additionally, thorium molten-salt reactors have several advantages over uranium as an energy source because they don’t require water cooling and produce almost no radioactive waste, both of which are obviously excellent for the environment.

According to a recent report, thorium may play a significant part in China’s mining waste; a mining complex alone is said to produce about one million tons of thorium annually.

Consequently, it has been proposed that the Bayan Obo mining complex might generate enough energy to run China for 60,000 years.

The study’s principal researcher, Fan Honghai of Beijing’s National Key Laboratory of Uranium Resource Exploration-Mining and Nuclear Remote Sensing, stated: “These thorium resources in tailings remain totally untouched.”

Meanwhile, a Beijing-based geologist who requested not to be named, told the South China Morning Post: “For over a century, nations have been engaging in wars over fossil fuels. It turns out the endless energy source lies right under our feet.”

Even if the discovery is undoubtedly positive, officials still need to think about a number of things, including how they will extract the metal.

In essence, thorium extraction will need a great deal of energy and acid, both of which are difficult to get.

Furthermore, officials will probably take every precaution to guarantee that thorium is utilized appropriately because many people are concerned about it being misused.

Although specialists think thorium is not suitable for nuclear use, some are concerned that its byproducts could be used as weapons.

Honghai continued: “The demand for thorium in nuclear power and nuclear propulsion sectors has brought significant opportunities and challenges to the exploration and exploitation of thorium resources in China.”

Although scientists have calculated how long China might run on its entire supply of thorium, the precise amount is being kept secret for national security reasons.
