When Asked If He Will Visit The Scene Of The American Airlines Tragedy, Donald Trump’s Strange Reaction Incites Controversy

Some people have accused Donald Trump of showing ‘no empathy’ for the victims of the American Airlines tragedy this week after he seemed to make a joke about it during a news conference.

When a journalist asked the 78-year-old Republican leader if he intended to visit the collision site in the days ahead, he appeared to reply with a scathing jest.

American Airlines crash explained

On Wednesday (January 29), an American Airlines aircraft carrying 60 passengers and four cabin staff members collided with a military helicopter, killing everyone on board.

After taking off from Witchita, Kansas, the PSA Airlines engine (AA 5432) was getting ready to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it struck a Black Hawk Sikorsky H-60 helicopter.

Hours before, the helicopter, which was transporting three persons, had taken off from Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Following the tragic disaster, witnesses told the media that both planes crashed into the Potomac River, with the American Airlines plane’splitting in half,’ according to the Mail.

Although rescue crews were sent out to look for survivors, both from the air and in boats, DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly acknowledged in an update yesterday afternoon that investigators “don’t believe there are any survivors.”

What did Donald Trump say?

Following the announcement of the crash, Donald Trump posted a list of his theories about what transpired in the air on his social media platform, Truth Social. He then asked why the helicopter was not told to leave the plane’s flight path.

“Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane?” he wrote at first.

“This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!”

Later, a reporter asked Trump if he had a “plan to go visit the site” where the two planes collided during a news conference that was broadcast on television yesterday, January 30.

“I have no plans to visit the site because— you tell me, what’s the site?” The president said before the interviewer could finish her sentence.

He then went on to seemingly jibe, “The water? You want me to go swimming?”

The reporter then asks, “To meet with the responders down there?”

Trump cuts in once more, saying, “I don’t have a plan to do that.”

Since then, video of the encounter has gone viral online, with many people accusing Donald Trump of showing “no empathy” for the people who died in the skies earlier this week.

One person said: “You know.. if nothing else, the blatant lack of self-awareness, empathy, compassion… SENSE is providing gentle comic relief amid the pure rage and unbearable sadness.”

“OMFG!” a third person added. “I’m just at a loss; my brain is shutting down.”

“I can’t imagine grieving someone in this tragedy and hearing this absolute doorknob disrespect their death like that!” another wrote.

Some people thought the question was weird, and most certainly not in place.

“He’s right. Stupid question.” while another one said “That was a really dumb question.”
