Suspect Has Been Arrested, Strong Evidence Tied To The Murder Of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

Luigi Mangione has been identified as the person of interest being held in relation to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Authorities in Altoona, Pennsylvania, are questioning Mangione, according to law enforcement officials who spoke to TMZ. However, he has not been charged in relation to the shooting death.

At a press conference on Monday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams affirmed that Luigi Mangione, 26, is the primary suspect in Thompson’s murder.

At the news conference, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that a McDonald’s employee in Altoona identified Mangione from widely shared police-released suspect pictures.

According to Tisch, officers discovered a silencer on his person, a gun, and clothing, including a mask, that matched the suspect’s description and photos.

According to Tisch, Mangione was carrying a handwritten manifesto that criticized healthcare firms and an ID that matched the one used to check into the NYC hostel, which may have given away his intentions and mentality.

A police official who has seen the two-page paper told CNN, “These parasites had it coming” and “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, who also addressed at today’s news conference, said investigators think the found weapon is a “ghost gun,” probably made with a 3-D printer.

IDENTIFIED PERSON OF INTEREST

Mangione was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a firearm and falsifying identity. Tisch clarified that the case is still pending and would proceed through the criminal court system.

Law enforcement officers from New York were on their way to Altoona to start the extradition process.

According to Mangione’s LinkedIn profile, he was the valedictorian of his high school class and a student at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League university.

He was a Phi Kappa Psi member while still an undergraduate. Mangione was last seen in Hawaii, but he is originally from Maryland.

After completing his high school education at the Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, Mangione transferred to UPenn in 2016… and earned a degree in Engineering, Computer, and Information Science.

He spent an additional year at the esteemed institution, where he obtained his Master’s degree.

Police detained LM after receiving a tip that a person of interest was spotted at a McDonald’s, as TMZ previously reported.

Awaiting Thompson’s arrival

According to law enforcement sources cited by the Times, the detained man reportedly had a gun—possibly a “ghost gun”—and a silencer.

He also presented police with the same fictitious identification that was used to rent the hostel room in New York City, where the murder suspect is thought to have stayed before last week’s murder.

After New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the potential assailant had left NYC, the hunt for the alleged shooter was extended across the country.

There will undoubtedly be more advancements in the future, so keep checking back.
