Prince William’s True Feelings For Prince Harry Exposed In Never-Before-Seen Diana Letters

As of right now, there is no relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry.

The brothers have always supported one another through thick and thin, particularly in the wake of the untimely death of their mother, Princess Diana. But now that Harry and Meghan’s royal departure and everything that followed have occurred, things are very different, with William and Harry not even speaking to one another.

Harry always believed that he was a “spare” in the royal family and not really that important in comparison to his elder brother, who has been groomed to take the throne someday, as the title of his book implies.

It’s uncertain whether the two will ever put their differences behind them, but one thing is certain—their father, King Charles, doesn’t want anything more.

Harry wrote extensively about his early years in Spare, although there are some murky details in his mother’s assessment of his early relationship with William.

Princess Diana’s recently found letters now provide light on Harry and William’s connection and offer a melancholic glimpse of what may have been.

The early years of Prince William and Prince Harry were wonderful. Even though their mother Princess Diana didn’t always follow the royal code, she ultimately aimed to provide her kids with a typical life, much like William and Kate do now.

Prince William & Prince Harry’s childhood

The dynamic between William and Harry hasn’t always been this tense. Actually, tragedy has brought these two incredibly devoted brothers closer together. Their mother died while they were quite young, and no one will ever really understand the agony they went through.

The two brothers got together and discussed their mother in 2017, the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death.

One word best describes their conversation: love.

“When everybody says ‘she was funny, give us an example’. All I can hear is her laugh,” Harry explained.

“She was one of the naughtiest parents, she’d come and watch us play football and smuggle sweets into her socks, literally walking back from a football match and having five packages of [candy]. And just, the whole shirt was full with sweets.”

“We felt incredibly loved by her, and I’m very grateful that the love still feels there,” William said. “It feels like a good time to remember her and hopefully provide a different side.”

“It was that love, even though she was on the other side of the room, as her son, you could feel it,” Harry added.

Being raised in the royal family must be a unique experience. Granted, money will always be plentiful, but life also entails obligations and responsibilities.

Newly discovered Diana letter gives insight into Prince William & Prince Harry’s relationship

It is difficult to determine how much of a “normal” upbringing William and Harry received from their mother. Recently, a letter that Princess Diana wrote in the distant past surfaced, offering a lovely window into William and Harry’s formative years. In addition, there is the extremely unique childhood bond between the two.

Diana wrote the letter in March 1985, barely six months after Harry, her youngest son, was born.

She wrote: “William adores his little brother and spends the entire time pouring an endless supply of hugs and kisses over Harry,” as reported by GB News.

Princess Diana disclosed in additional correspondence how Prince Harry, who was then older, was “always in trouble” at school. She also talked on the happiness that comes with being a mother and the upcoming “difficult period” in her life.

William and Harry frequently accompanied Princess Diana to amusement parks and other entertaining places. However, she was also aware of the perks of living as a princess, such as having food given to them constantly.

Despite their status as royals, she understood the value of William and Harry being children just like any other. In light of this, she occasionally slipped them out of the palace to get takeout.

“I remember the princess came into the kitchen one day and said, ‘Cancel lunch for the boys, I’m taking them out, we’re going to McDonald’s,” Diana’s former personal chef Darren McGrady told Marie Claire.

“And I said, ‘Oh my God – your Royal Highness, I can do that, I can do burgers.’ And she said, ‘No, it’s the toy they want.’”

Prince Harry recalled moment he found out about Diana’s death

After a fatal car accident in Paris in August of 1997, Princess Diana went dead. Her sons, William and Harry, were left motherless, and the loss of her shocked the country.

Millions of people grieved for the princess, but her family naturally suffered the most.

In his book, Spare, Harry remembered how he learned of his mother’s passing. He told him how his father had been sitting next to his bed and saying, “Darling boy, Mummy’s been in a car crash.”

“There were complications. Mummy was quite badly injured and taken to hospital, darling boy,” Harry recalled his father saying. “He always called me ‘darling boy,’ but he was saying it quite a lot now. His voice was soft. He was in shock, it seemed.”

“With a head injury. They tried, darling boy. I’m afraid she didn’t make it.”

The prince further claimed that Charles put his hand on his knee, saying: “It’s going to be OK,” but that he “didn’t hug” him.

“Everyone knows where they were and what they were doing the night my mother died,” Harry stated.

“I cried once, during the funeral, and I went into detail about how weird it was and how, in fact, I felt some guilt—I believe William felt it too—by strolling around the exterior of Kensington Palace.”

“I don’t think that should be required of any child.”

“There were 50,000 bouquets of flowers to our mother and there we were shaking people’s hands, smiling,” he continued. “I’ve seen the videos, right, I looked back over it all. And the wet hands that we were shaking, we couldn’t understand why their hands were wet, but it was all the tears that they were wiping away.”

As the procession arrived at Westminster Abbey, Harry and William followed Diana’s coffin. Harry later criticized the two young lads for having to walk around London while everyone watched them; they were, respectively, twelve and fifteen years old.

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” he told Newsweek in 2017. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

Her admirers have used the Pont de I’Alma tunnel, the site of Diana’s vehicle accident, as a place of memorial and grief as well as a tourist destination. Harry made the decision to travel the same path his mother had taken that evening in 1997 when he visited the tunnel in 2007.

The Duke instructed the driver to take him to the tunnel on his first night in the French city, Paris, where he had been invited to watch the Ruby World Cup semi-final.

Harry concluded: “I’d always imagined the tunnel as some treacherous passageway, inherently dangerous, but it was just a short, simple, no-frills tunnel.”

There is no longer a mother for Prince William and Prince Harry; perhaps their rivalry would not be as severe if Diana were still alive.

Prince Harry revealed physical confrontation with his brother in ‘Spare’

William wasn’t happy about Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the royal family. But once Harry published his book Spare, the royal-Sussex animosity reached its zenith.

Harry took a hard stance against nearly all of the more senior members of the royal family, including sharing intimate details of one of his worst arguments with William.

Harry said in a letter that he and William had a violent altercation at his London residence in 2019. Harry referred to the Duke’s claims that William had described his wife, Meghan, as “abrasive,” “rude,” and “difficult” as “parroting the press narrative.”

It escalated, and Harry described how William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor.”

“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” Harry wrote.

The Duke then described how William urged him to hit back, describing their fights as children. When Harry refused, the future king left before returning later,, “looking regretful, and apologized.” Harry said he sustained visible injuries to his back. It remains to be seen whether Harry and William will make amends in the future. But for now, it’s clear that the “Battle of the Brothers” is still very active.
