Jimmy Carter Breaks Silence With Heartbreaking Tribute To Wife Rosalynn After Her Death
After the passing of his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, at the age of 96, Jimmy Carter has made his first public remark.
The Carter Center confirmed Rosalynn’s death; she had entered hospice care late last week. She had been diagnosed with dementia six months prior.
The internet has been swamped with tributes to Rosalynn, who leaves behind a lengthy record of outstanding humanitarian work, but maybe no message will be more sincere than the one from her long-time husband, former president Jimmy Carter.
Rosalynn reportedly died on November 19 at 2:20 p.m. at her home in Plains, Georgia.
After her time as First Lady with her husband from 1977 to 1981, Rosalynn Carter continued her humanitarian activities through the Carter Center.
The health of Rosalynn and Jimmy has declined significantly during the past year. After declining medical treatment for multiple health problems, Jimmy Carter entered hospice care in February.
Rosalynn, who was diagnosed with dementia a year and a half before her death last Thursday, finally joined her husband.
“Former first lady Rosalynn Carter has entered hospice care at home,” a statement released by the Carter Center read. “She and President Carter are spending time with each other and their family. The Carter family continues to ask for privacy and remains grateful for the outpouring of love and support.”
Tragically, Rosalynn passed away just 48 hours after returning to the one-story home she and Jimmy occupied in the little village where they had spent their formative years.
After Jimmy’s death as President of the United States, Rosalynn was hailed as his “equal partner” in a statement he released.
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Jimmy’s statement read.
“She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
The wedding between Jimmy and Rosalynn took place in 1946.
After serving in the military until his father’s death in 1953, Carter took over the family property. However, he quickly returned to politics and won a position in the Georgia Senate in 1962.
Through it all, Rosalynn was right there by his side: “We developed a partnership when we were working in the farm supply business, and it continued when Jimmy got involved in politics,” Rosalynn Carter told AP. “I knew more on paper about the business than he did. He would take my advice about things.”
