What is Dopamine? It’s a neurotransmitter than regulates the brain’s pleasure and happiness meter. It controls the body’s actions and responses and not only helps to identify rewards but also works towards those.
What’s amazing is that it can even be raised through a few simple methods:
1. Say NO to addiction
There are several things people get addicted to. It’s mainly because they give us joy and satisfaction immediately. Drugs, sex, porn, alcohol, shopping and many others are very addictive and therefore have an adverse effect on dopamine. These addictions give a sudden high of pleasure, making it look like a ‘reward’, which isn’t a healthy way to develop dopamine.
2. Make effective to-do lists
Our brains feel good when we steadily get our work done, small or big, and keep things organized. When we make a list of things we need to get done and cross them out one by one, it de-stresses the brain and it raises dopamine levels.
3. Creative Productivity
This is something that holds true for every kind of artist out there, no matter what their preferred form of art is. We become super focused and can concentrate hard whenever we start creating something. This means getting into a state of flow. This can be attained by Dopamine. Therefore, start dabbling in different art forms like painting, handicrafts, writing, photography or whatever you like and prefer, and start channeling yourself through your creation.
4. Working out
Nothing can beat the effectiveness of exercising. It’s beneficial in so many ways. It helps us release stress, improve our health and keeps us energetic and active. Moreover, it raises the dopamine levels. Some other neurotransmitters, like serotonin and endorphins, are also increased. There’s no need for the exercise to be strenuous though.
5. Keep a tally
This means to keep a score of how many days you have continued to achieve your goal. Whenever you set a goal, keep working towards it and keep a count of the days you work. This will help you stay motivated and also increase dopamine.
6. Raises Tyrosine
Tyrosine is the most important chemical constituting dopamine. It’s even called the building block. The body requires this protein a lot and these are some foods you can get it from:
- Green Tea
These healthy options will not only nourish you but also raise the dopamine levels.
Music can always cheer us up. This is because jamming to music actually raises our dopamine levels. The impact it has on us is similar to indulging in our favorite snacks or binge-watching our favorite movies. Whenever you feel sad and depressed, music is always there to pick you up and help you get better. So press play to those awesome songs and dance your heart out!

Meditation is extremely necessary and beneficial for your health. We can suffer from a lot of addictions and one such scary addiction is the problem of thinking too much. A Buddhist term for this issue is ‘monkey mind’. This is a serious problem, as it makes you distressed, exhausted and spreads negativity in your life. To calm your mind and body, and achieve full capacity of our body, meditation is very important. Being in touch with yourself through meditation, praying and self-awareness, raises dopamine.
9. Cleanse toxicity
Our bodies produce many toxins and germs. Sleep properly, refuse fatty food and eat fermented food to prevent endotoxins that stop dopamine release. Toxin cleansing is also helpful.
