10 Dating Etiquettes We Desperately Need To Bring Back

Romance is in the air, no matter what season it is. In a fast-paced world where people are too scared to express their true feelings, dating just isn’t what it used to be. But we remember some of the things we used to love, so here is a list of things we need to reintroduce into our dating lives.

1. Walking up to your date’s front door to greet them

It’s an instant mood-killer when your dates just texts you to let you know they’re in the car. It’s almost like you are just friends meeting for a casual hang-out. It doesn’t take very long to walk up to the door but it immediately boosts your image.

2. Putting thought into what you’re wearing

We all have different ideas when it comes to fashion and that’s how it should be. You don’t have to turn up in a tux or a ball gown, but your look does make a statement. We should do our best to make sure that our appearance says something about us, in whatever way we’d like it to.

3. Getting a pretty trinket or flowers for your partner when you go out the first time

Some people still do this, but mostly it happens when you’re already well settled into the relationship. Society is always teaching us to play hard to get, so many avoid this because they don’t want to come across as too eager. But we still like to feel appreciated, so even showing up with flowers is a very sweet gesture.

4. Dancing just because you feel like it

Nowadays, dancing on a date means grinding against each other on the dark, shady dance floor of a club. Remember when we used to dance just because it was fun and it helped us get over any stiffness we felt on that first date? Not to mention those romantic nights spent slowly waltzing around the house with your partner. We need to bring those back!

5. Being honest with your intentions

We like to use vague terms in order to beat around the bush when people ask us what we really want. We tell others that we’re just ‘hanging out’ or ‘chilling together’. It’s understandable to want to protect your heart but this will just end up in a lot of confusion for everyone.

6. Letting each other know where you are

Rather than spending ages working up the courage to awkwardly ask the other person where your relationship has reached, it would be so much better to just ask them if they want to be your significant other. It’s also so much better than agonizing over assumptions.

7. It’s okay to be cheesy

You don’t have to write them volumes of poetry about the shape of their eyebrows. Instead, you can make a handmade card, a flower that they like, or just some funny thing that made you think of them that will show them that you care.

8. Switching off the world to be alone together

Don’t be that person who is completely absorbed with their phone when they’re supposed to be spending time with their date. Just put it away for a while and try to connect with this person who matters to you.

9. Asking them for permission rather than just making assumptions

It was considered polite to ask your date permission before doing something. Some people just think they can see them anytime, initiate any kind of sexual contact or just call them at odd times. It doesn’t hurt to ask your partner before you do any of these things, so that you know that they are comfortable.

10. Not feeling entitled to sex

We don’t have to get back to not talking about sex at all, but we also should not assume that by the time we’ve gone on a few dates, the other person should be ready to have sex with us. Dates can be just dates without anything after them and there is no point getting upset about that. Never force a person who is not ready.
